Job Description

Controller (Full-Time)

Location: Brookville, Ohio

Position Type: Full-Time, Onsite

Reports To: President & CEO

Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced and hands-on Controller to join their team in Brookville, Ohio. This position is evolving from a contract-based function into a full-time leadership role due to company growth and the need for a dedicated, long-term financial leader.

This is not a sit-back Controller role. We're looking for someone who will roll up their sleeves, take ownership of the numbers, and build structure where needed.

The Controller will oversee all accounting operations, ensure financial accuracy, and provide strategic insight to support continued expansion and operational efficiency.

What You'll Own

  • Full ownership of day-to-day accounting operations:
  • General ledger, A/P, A/R, payroll, and reconciliations
  • Monthly, quarterly, and annual close—done right and done on time
  • Preparation and analysis of financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling to support growth
  • Cash flow management and banking relationships
  • Development and enforcement of internal controls and accounting policies
  • Coordination with external CPA, tax advisors, and auditors
  • Financial insight for leadership—what's working, what's not, and where to improve
  • Cost analysis, margin improvement, and KPI tracking across operations
  • Transitioning accounting from a supported/contract function to a fully owned internal process

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA or CMA is a plus, but not required
  • 5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility
  • Experience in manufacturing, construction, or industrial environments strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems (QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite, or similar)
  • Comfortable working in an environment where not everything is perfectly built yet
  • Ability to both execute and improve—not just maintain
  • High level of ownership, accountability, and follow-through
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with leadership

What Success Looks Like

  • Financials are clean, accurate, and on time—no surprises
  • Leadership has clear visibility into performance and cash flow
  • Processes are structured, documented, and repeatable
  • The accounting function runs smoothly without outside dependency
  • You become a trusted financial voice within the organization

Why This Role

  • Key leadership role in a company that is actively growing
  • Position created as part of the company's next phase—not a backfill due to failure
  • Opportunity to build, improve, and leave your fingerprint on the business
  • Direct access to decision-makers and real influence
