POSITION OVERVIEW


You will serve as the working leader of the companies’ centralized finance and accounting team in Denver with operations in Denver, Bellingham WA, Portland CT, New Orleans LA, and Mobile AL where Birdon is executing multiple Government Contracts focused on Maritime engineering and manufacturing.

You will be responsible for providing timely and accurate financial guidance and analytics to all levels of management to inform key decision-making in pursuit of the company’s financial and operational objectives.

The position requires strong interpersonal relationships with subordinates, peers, senior management, and external contacts regarding the role's functional areas of expertise. The position has significant interactions with other Birdon business areas as required.


MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Financial Controller is responsible for:

  • Plan, direct, and carry out accounting activities to ensure the accurate and timely preparation and dissemination of designated financial statements and reports; create non-standard reports and variance reviews as required.
  • Provide leadership for the processing of business transactions across the organization (AR, AP, payroll, expense reporting) ensuring controls are effectively in place and opportunities for continuous improvement of processing efficiencies are executed.
  • With support from IT/ERP team, identify new processes and procedures for continual improvement, initially focused on:
    • Payroll processing
    • Requisition and approval processes
    • Fully digital AP processing and approval
  • Develop, prepare, and present to the Executive Team monthly performance presentations: understand detailed data and create a cohesive story based on key performance drivers to communicate to senior management and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • In conjunction with the Finance Manager, provide input and leadership into
  • Income and balance sheet modeling and forecasting.
  • Cashflow modeling and forecasting.
  • Lead bank reporting, annual financial audit and tax return preparation processes and engage with key stakeholders.
  • Lead accounting team that includes accounting manager, GL accountant, accounts payable, and payroll roles.
  • Perform other job duties as directed by the Executive Team or Directors.
  • Travel will be limited but necessary in support of the Executive Team.


QUALIFICATIONS
& ATTRIBUTES


  • BA/BS in finance or accounting.
  • CPA or CPA eligible preferred.
  • 8 to 10 years of relevant management experience with ability to lead and inspire.
  • Experience with Microsoft Business Central (ERP) is a highly desired skillset.
  • Project accounting (% of completion rev rec) experience
  • Strong working knowledge of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and banking.
  • Ability to manage process change including identifying stakeholders, change options, and manage others to a timeline
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Exceptional organizational, prioritization and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Self-starter with a drive for excellence, ability to build strong working relationships, and a proven ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment
