Job Summary: The Financial Reporting & Analysis Analyst supports the Department of Defense Financial Improvement and Audit Readiness (FIAR) program by performing end-to-end financial reporting and analytical activities in support of audited financial statements. This role is responsible for assisting with the preparation, analysis, reconciliation, and validation of financial statements, footnotes, and required financial reports in compliance with OMB and DoD guidance. The analyst works closely with Government stakeholders, auditors, and functional teams to ensure accurate, timely, and audit-ready financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Statement Preparation & Analysis:

  • Support the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial statements, including Balance Sheet, Statement of Net Cost, Statement of Changes in Net Position, and Statement of Budgetary Resources.
  • Perform detailed analysis of financial data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency across reporting periods.
  • Support preparation of financial statement footnotes in accordance with OMB A-136 and applicable accounting standards.

Annual Agency Financial Report (AFR) Support:

  • Assist in compiling sections of the Annual Agency Financial Report (AFR), including Management’s Discussion and Analysis (MD&A), financial statements, and other required sections.
  • Support reconciliation of AFR financial statements and footnotes to authoritative sources (e.g., DDRS).
  • Assist in tracking AFR schedules, milestones, and deliverables.

Variance Analysis & Reconciliations:

  • Perform quarterly and annual variance analysis to identify significant fluctuations and business drivers.
  • Prepare variance explanations and supporting documentation for Government review and audit purposes.
  • Support reconciliations between financial systems, sub-ledgers, and general ledger balances.

Audit Support:

  • Respond to auditor inquiries related to financial reporting and analysis.
  • Support preparation of audit evidence and documentation supporting financial statement assertions.
  • Assist with walkthroughs and explanations of financial statement balances and variances.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain supporting documentation, workpapers, and audit trails for financial reporting activities.
  • Assist in preparing briefings, schedules, and status reports for Government leadership.
  • Ensure all deliverables comply with Government quality standards and formatting requirements.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in federal financial reporting, DoD financial management, audit support, or accounting operations.
  • Experience supporting audited financial statements or Annual Agency Financial Reports (AFRs) is preferred.

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of federal financial statements and reporting requirements.
  • Familiarity with OMB Circular A-136, USSGL, and federal accounting standards.
  • Experience supporting DoD Components, Defense Agencies, or federal financial statement audits.
  • Familiarity with Defense Departmental Reporting System (DDRS) or other DoD financial systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight reporting deadlines
  • Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex financial information to technical and non-technical audiences.


Anticipation: Montcure is currently bidding on the task order and has an anticipated award date in February

Career Level Alignment:

  • Junior Analyst: 2–4 years financial reporting or audit support experience
  • Mid-Level Analyst: 5–7 years financial reporting and AFR experience
  • Senior Analyst: 8+ years leading federal financial reporting efforts
