First-line Production Engineering Manager - Fabrication Division. The Boeing Company Boeing Commercial Airplanes Fabrication Engineering is seeking a Fabrication Production Engineering First Line Manager to lead a team defining Integrated Planning, Safety and Quality Plan execution, and Safety Management System (SMS) maturity and operations across Fabrication. This role is responsible for leading a team that develops and maintains the tools, standard requirements, and planning artifacts used by production teams as part of their work statement. With a focus on Assembly/Detail Process Planning (ADPP), this team will lead Fabrication’s Safety and Quality Plan to guide Work Instruction Improvements (ADPP and IP) and Design Build Assessments (DBA). The successful candidate will also support the continued maturity of the Safety Management System and the monthly operations cadence supporting the Fabrication SMS Board. This position requires strong leadership, effective communication, and the ability to build collaborative relationships across engineering, manufacturing, and operational support organizations. It will be based in Auburn, Washington and is expected to be 100% onsite. Primary Responsibilities Lead, manage, and develop a team supporting Integrated Planning for Fabrication Manufacturing Engineers. Develop and maintain the tools, standard requirements, and planning artifacts consumed by production teams as part of their work statement. Lead Fabrication’s safety and quality plan activities, including IP simplification, DBA, and ADPP simplification efforts. Provide leadership and coordination for Safety Management System (SMS) maturity across Fabrication. Support monthly operations and recurring cadence for the Fabrication SMS Board. Assign and prioritize work to ensure timely execution of team deliverables and production support needs. Provide technical and organizational oversight for the team’s execution of production engineering activities. Coach, develop, and motivate employees to strengthen team capability, performance, and engagement. Support staffing decisions, workforce planning, and development of technical talent within the team. Drive process improvements that improve quality, clarity, throughput, and first‑time yield of planning and production support activities. Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, planning, supply chain, and other engineering stakeholders to resolve issues and implement improvements. Ensure engineering support is aligned with production schedules, business priorities, and operational needs. Monitor performance, identify risks, and take action to address issues that could impact delivery, planning quality, or operational support. Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Provide oversight of technical approaches, deliverables, and process compliance within the team’s scope. Use standard management and project tools to communicate status, risks, issues, and progress to leadership and stakeholders. Basic Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non‑US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement. 5+ years of experience in Production Engineering, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. At least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large‑scale cross‑functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR completed the Boeing internal course “Exploring Leadership”. Preferred Qualifications 2+ years of experience in a formal engineering leadership role. Experience supporting Fabrication or high‑rate production environments. Experience supporting, planning simplification, and manufacturing engineering planning systems. Experience with Assembly/Detail Process Planning (ADPP). Experience with Safety Management System (SMS) implementation or operational governance. Strong coaching, mentoring, and employee development skills. Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, manufacturing partners, and leadership. Experience collaborating across multiple functions and disciplines. Experience using data and standard management tools to track work, risks, and performance. Experience leading continuous improvement efforts in a manufacturing environment. Experience resolving conflicts and fostering teamwork. Additional Information Conflict of Interest: Successful candidates must satisfy the Company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.
