At Heartland Farms, we produce many different types of chipping potatoes as well as potatoes that go to supermarkets and head off to your home. We currently ship chipping and fresh market potatoes from our Wisconsin operation from August through June of the following year. We have storage capacity for over 5,500,000 hundredweight (Cwt) and can ship out up to 120 semi truck loads per day! We are currently farming approximately 27,000 irrigated acres and have been experiencing substantial growth. Other crops produced are sweet corn, canning peas, green beans, and soybeans. All of the vegetable crops are sold to Wisconsin food processors. Hancock, WI is about 30 miles from of Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids and Westfield. Role Description The Fleet Maintenance Technician is responsible for the general maintenance and repair of all Heartland Farms vehicles. The mechanic will be working in a fast-paced, high-volume private fleet. This mixed fleet includes various makes and models of vehicles. Salary will be based on experience. Core Responsibilities Performing DOT inspections, diagnosis, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on vehicles and equipment. Conducting routine maintenance work to improve vehicle functionality and longevity. Completing necessary documentation associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and repair times. Communicating needed repairs or tasks to the Fleet Manager. Maintain a safe work station. Performing other related maintenance work. All other duties as may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position. Preferred Experience A Technical Degree in Auto/Truck Maintenance, Diesel Mechanic or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. 3 years of auto/truck-related experience preferred. 3 years of Fleet Truck Maintenance experience preferred. Air conditioning Experience preferred. Welding and fabrication experience preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Must be willing to work on gas and diesel engines as needed. Must know and understand basic electrical components, including switches, relays, and circuits. Must be proficient in vehicle diagnosis and repair. Emergency lighting and siren experience is welcome. Certificates of accomplishment are deemed valuable. Motivated, self-starter, and able to work independently. Work cooperatively with other employees. Understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language. Work Schedule The Fleet Maintenance Technician ’s work schedule is highly dependent on the time of year. Staff will be expected to work as needed, which will require a great deal of flexibility regarding the hours per day and week, as well as the times worked. This is particularly true during the Planting and Harvest seasons, where 7-day weeks are required. The Farm generally operates 7 days per week. The Fleet Maintenance Technician can reasonably expect to work from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm, 5 days each week, though given the scope of this position it is understood that the role of Fleet Maintenance Technician is an on-call position and may be required to work in the evenings or on weekends as needed. Physical Requirements Must be a minimum of 18 years old. Must be able to routinely lift and carry items up to 75 lbs and reach overhead. Requires the ability to work on-site and in multiple locations and settings. Requires the ability to clearly understand verbal and written communication from others in person and by telephone.Requires the ability to climb and work from ladders and other elevated platforms to inspect, assess, and diagnose equipment. Must have a valid and current operator's license with a clean record. Location Details Heartland Farms is located at 907 3rd Avenue Hancock, WI 54943 in Adams County near the border of Waushara County. The facility is approximately: Less than 20-minutes from Bancroft, Coloma, or Plainfield. About 30 minutes from Adams, Almond, Necedah, Nekoosa, Wautoma, Westfield, or Wild Rose. About 35-40 minutes from Red Granite, Stevens Point, or Wisconsin Rapids.
