POSITION SUMMARY

The Flex Operator is an entry level position in our light assembly, import container unload and e-commerce areas. This position will cover multiple departments and daily duties will be determined by business needs. Flex Operators will unload containers, monitor, tend and/or operate various pieces of high speed and manually operated equipment in support of our finished goods assembly, while working in our light assembly area. While in the E-Commerce Center, Flex Operators will audit and perform necessary data entry while ensuring the timely preparation, packaging and final shipment (processing, loading) of packages, to meet or exceed customer requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Light Assembly:

  • Operate all machinery and production cells as assigned.
  • Demonstrate the understanding of all required paperwork to include but not limited to, the Bill of Materials (BOM), Hour x Hour sheet, basic tool prints, communication boards, standard work documents, quality visuals, and productivity requirements.
  • Follow basic work instructions daily with reasonable supervision.
  • Perform operator fundamentals including simple problem-solving including ability to clear routine machine jams, identify and fix routine/repetitive problems, notify appropriate support person if unable to resolve problem themselves.
  • Perform visual and simple mechanical quality inspection of products being produced.
  • Address rework as required.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with (WMS, Shop floor) systems.

E-Commerce:

  • Operate Box on Demand (BOD) machine for the creation of packing boxes.
  • Pack and secure products for shipping to Ups/Fed Ex terminals, with attention to detail, and accuracy of packages shipped.
  • Re-label / pack out products on demand according to bill of materials or rework instructions.
  • Assist with the unloading of import containers as assigned.
  • Demonstrate the understanding of all required paperwork to include, but not limited to, pick sheets, customer requirements, special instructions, communication boards, quality visuals.
  • Process customer orders through UPS/FedEx/USPS Solutions
  • Report quality and inventory variances to individual leads and/or supervisors
  • Assists and follows overall company goals, in servicing the customer and meeting all required KPIs.
  • Train to pick first level orders with the use of an RF device and pick cart.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate the understating of machine requirements and be able to produce at or exceed productivity rates consistently to the standards within the department worked.
  • Maintain the facilities, equipment, tools, and materials in a neat, clean, orderly fashion, adhering to all sanitation practices.
  • Follows all AMES safety policies and procedures, best practices, and OSHA regulations.
  • Operate efficiently in a team setting while communicating in a professional manner with all business associates.
  • Assist in any other required operational functions as business dictates.
  • Perform operator fundamentals including simple problem solving, identify and fix routine/repetitive problems, notify appropriate support person if unable to solve problem themselves.
  • Other duties as assigned (including, but not limited to, training of others within job class, sanitation, reporting labor & production, safety committee, etc.)
  • Adhere to all AMES Policies and Procedures.
  • Must comply with all safety policies and procedures; including, but not limited to wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Follow the required standard work and achieve the published standard work goals.
  • Participate in continuous improvement through cost savings suggestions, Lean Events, or other related activities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to complete simple math, to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
