Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill two part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) student outreach positions for OSUs College of Health, Extension Family and Community Health program. The position is partially funded by SNAP-ED and thus is contingent upon following the USDA SNAP-Ed guidance. Students will need to adhere to that guidance plus any additional guidelines from Oregon Department of Human Services and Oregon State University. Training is provided on those guidelines by the Food Hero faculty and staff.

The position exists to support the statewide Food Hero Social Marketing Campaign faculty and staff in program management and the design and development of programming and partnerships. Food Hero is funded through USDA SNAP-Ed funding as a grand awarded to OSU by the Oregon Department of Human Services. Want to learn more about us? Visit www.foodhero.org

Website maintenance (30%)
Recipe testing (25%)
Social media content creation (20%)
SNAP-Ed opportunities (school and community events) outside of office (15%)
Food and nutrition-centered duties such as drafting, editing and reviewing educational materials (10%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

  • International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered full-time by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications
  • Be a student or possess a degree in Nutrition/Dietetics or a similar field,or have work experience over 3 years in a cooking/nutrition field
  • Be available during the school year on-campus; summer availability is desired
  • Work well with computers, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva
  • Have broad cooking experience (home or work) and willingness to complete requirements for a Food Handlers Card
  • Be self-directed and able to learn some skills on your own
  • Possess a high level of organizational skills/time management and attention to detail
  • Be flexible. The work environment and hours can vary by project
  • Be creative! We like exploring new ideas
  • Have a strong commitment to diversity

Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Speak/read Spanish or Russian
  • Basic understanding of website development (HTML, Drupal)
  • Experience with social media content creation (text and visual)
  • Experience with data entry (Excel, Qualtrics)
  • Experience working with limited income and diverse populations
  • Ability to recruit, organize and coordinate volunteers for some position duties (recipe testing, social media)
