Job Description :
Hit a glass ceiling at your current firm? Tired of the same of projects day to day?
We're working with a boutique forensic structural engineering practice working with insurers, property owners, attorneys, and design-build teams to determine why structures fail, and how to restore them. Their work spans hurricane damage along the coast, fires in historic mill towns, and complex construction defects in high‑rise buildings.
You will have exposure to field investigations, technical reporting, and repair design across a wide variety of projects, ideal for engineers who prefer hands‑on forensic work over repetitive production design.
What You'll Do
Travel regionally and occasionally out of state to perform site investigations and damage assessments of commercial, industrial, and residential structures (roofs, façades, foundations, structural collapses, fire and flood losses).
Conduct forensic investigations to determine cause and extent of damage due to wind, hail, impact, fire, water intrusion, and construction deficiencies.
Perform structural analysis in steel, concrete, masonry, wood, and light‑gauge metal to evaluate root cause, code compliance, and repair methodologies.
Prepare clear, defensible technical reports outlining findings, analysis, conclusions, and repair recommendations.
Develop construction drawings and specifications for structural repairs.
Leadership & Expert Engagement Opportunities
Serve as a subject matter expert in depositions, mediations, and trial testimony.
Collaborate with attorneys to help develop claims strategy and technical demonstratives.
Mentor junior engineers and summer interns.
What You'll Bring
Education: B.S. in Civil Engineering required; M.S. strongly preferred.
Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within a short timeframe. Multi‑state licensure and/or SE credential valued.
Experience: 5-12 years total engineering experience, including at least 3 years in structural design, forensic investigation, or related field/construction work.
Field Capability: Ability to lift and carry equipment (including ladders) up to 50 lbs; comfortable with roofs, crawlspaces, and attics.
Communication: Strong ability to translate technical engineering concepts into clear, plain‑language written reports and verbal testimony.
What They Offer
Competitive compensation commensurate with experience, plus performance‑based bonuses.
Limitless growth opportunities
Comprehensive benefits, including employer‑paid medical coverage and retirement plan with employer match.
Hybrid work model with flexible hours and comp time for travel.
Competitive PTO and leave consistent with high-quality small consulting firms.
Paid professional licensure, continuing education, training, and conference attendance.
Modern tools and technology, including advanced software, drones, and field equipment.
A collaborative, low‑ego culture with team‑building activities and volunteer opportunities.
