Position Summary The Freight Manager / Business Development Manager is responsible for securing, developing, and managing freight opportunities that keep C&H Logistics' trucks and trailers consistently utilized. This role focuses on business development, customer relationships, and revenue generation, with close coordination with dispatch and operations to ensure freight can be executed safely, efficiently, and profitably. Freight includes heavy haul, aggregate materials, bulk liquid loads, agricultural commodities, and other dry goods across construction, industrial, and agricultural markets. Primary Responsibilities Freight Sourcing & Business Development Actively identify and secure hauling opportunities for: Heavy haul (heavy equipment, agricultural equipment, etc.) Aggregate materials (side-dump, end-dump, project hauling) Bulk liquid loads (water, liquid byproducts, agricultural liquids, industrial liquids) Agricultural commodities (manure, silage, beets, grain, fertilizer, and related products) Other dry goods requiring specialized or bulk transport Build and maintain relationships with: General contractors and excavation companies Aggregate end-users, producers, pits, and quarries Agricultural producers and processors Industrial customers and project managers Brokers and logistics partners (as appropriate) Identify upcoming projects and seasonal demand cycles Convert leads into executed hauling work and repeat business Pricing, Negotiation & Contracts Negotiate hauling rates including: Per ton, per load, per mile, hourly, and project based pricing Detention, standby, demurrage, and special handling charges Assist with: Hauling agreements and rate sheets Project quotes and load confirmations Long term or seasonal hauling arrangements Ensure pricing aligns with operational costs and margin targets Fleet Utilization & Coordination Ensure company trucks and trailers are consistently utilized Coordinate with dispatch to: Match freight to available equipment and drivers Prioritize internal fleet before outsourcing Minimize idle equipment and deadhead miles Balance spot freight with longer-term contracted work Communicate job requirements clearly to operations before committing freight Operations & Cross Team Collaboration Work closely with: Internal Dispatch and logistics Internal Shop and maintenance Aggregate and agricultural operations Accounting and billing Confirm load feasibility, timing, and equipment suitability Assist with resolving customer, rate, or execution issues Ensure job details, rates, and terms are properly documented and communicated Market Intelligence & Strategy Monitor market conditions, demand trends, and competitive activity Identify opportunities to expand freight types, customers, or geographic reach Provide management feedback on: Equipment needs Rate structures Market opportunities and risks Support long term growth planning for C&H Logistics Qualifications Required 5+ years of Experience in trucking, logistics, construction, aggregates, agriculture, or bulk transport Strong understanding of: Heavy haul and aggregate trucking Bulk liquid and dry bulk hauling Jobsite and seasonal logistics Proven ability to source freight and build customer relationships Strong negotiation and communication skills Ability to work independently and manage multiple active opportunities Practical, operations minded approach to sales and logistics Preferred Business Degree.
