Fleet ManagerManages, supervises and coordinates the maintenance activities and operations of the Fleet Services Division of the Public Works Department, including development, recommendation, and implementation of policy, coordination of service delivery, contract management and interaction with regulatory agencies; coordinates assigned activities with other divisions, departments and outside agencies; and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support.Duties include managing the daily operations of vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair, supervises staff including prioritizing and assigning work, short and long-range planning of Fleet Services shop operations. Development and execution of the equipment replacement program for City Vehicles.Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge related to applicable Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations related to areas of supervisionKnowledge of the principles and practices related to the operation of fleet related equipment, vehicles, trucks and specialized equipmentKnowledge of municipal budget development, administration procedures, record keeping, municipal bidding procedures and equipment disposition and auction service proceduresKnowledge of City personnel policies and procedures and safety rules and regulation related to work procedures, equipment, and usage of materialsKnowledge of the principles of supervision, training and performance evaluationAbility to review, interpret, and analyze data to make sound, knowledgeable decisions and effective recommendationsAbility develop and administer department goals, objectives and proceduresAbility to supervise, manage and delegate subordinate employeesEducation and Experience:Specialized training in automotive/mechanical repair field or an associate's degree in business administration, public administration, industrial technology, or related field and five (5) years of increasing responsible experience in fleet management including three years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.; ORAny equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilitiesGeneral knowledge of municipal purchasing, operations and procedures is preferredCertificates and Licenses Required:A Valid Class C Texas driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving recordPossession of a recognized fleet management certification: Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM), Certified Equipment Manager (CEM), Certified Public Fleet Professional (CPFP) or the ability to obtain within an established time frame to be determined.Environmental Factors and Safety Hazards:Primarily in an indoor environment with the ability to operate outdoors when needed. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold during summer and winter months.Tools and Equipment Used:Standard office equipment including multi-line telephone, computer, fax machine, copier, shredder, scanner, printer, automotive diagnostic equipment etc.
