ETONIEN is sourcing for a dynamic and hands-on controller to support our fund and management client and its related entities in the South Bay/Silicon Beach (Los Angeles county) area.

Individual contributor initially, with primary ownership of fund accounting, financial reporting, and tax coordination. Reports to the VP of Finance and works closely with managing partners. Expected to manage external vendors and help build out processes and, over time, potentially a small internal team.

On-site (4–5 days per week)

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day fund accounting and reporting processes for funds and related entities
  • Oversee and review work of external fund administrators, auditors, and tax advisors
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close and reporting cycles
  • Prepare and/or review quarterly investor reports, capital account statements, and related schedules
  • Review quarterly and annual GAAP financial statements and disclosures and manage the audit process
  • Review and validate management and performance fee calculations for consistency with fund documents
  • Coordinate information for regulatory and compliance filings as needed
  • Oversee cash flow projections and daily cash management, including capital calls and distributions
  • Respond to ad hoc requests from managing partners, investment professionals, and investors on time-sensitive matters
  • Lead the compilation and review of information provided to tax advisors and help interpret tax results for internal stakeholders
  • Monitor fund expenses and allocations and review payments for compliance with fund documents
  • Own the corporate card expense review and approval process and strengthen related controls
  • Identify and implement process improvements in reporting, controls, and use of systems/tools

Qualifications

  • Approximately 3–6 years of public accounting experience; Big 4 or large national firm strongly preferred
  • Strong tax background with direct exposure to private equity funds, hedge funds, or other alternative investment vehicles
  • Direct experience in fund accounting, fund financial reporting, or portfolio reporting in public accounting, a fund administrator, or an asset manager
  • CPA preferred
  • Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP for investment funds and partnership/fund tax concepts
  • Comfortable owning processes end-to-end in a lean environment
  • Strong Excel skills; proficient in Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work on-site in El Segundo 4–5 days per week
  • Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and external providers while supporting senior internal stakeholders
  • Clear, concise communication; able to present issues and recommendations to senior leadership
  • High level of ownership, initiative, and reliability; strong control mindset and attention to detail
  • Strong ethics and integrity

Compensation

Wide range of factors are considered in making compensation decisions. Exact compensation may vary based on factors including skills, experience, certification, license and location. A reasonable estimate of current compensation range is:

  • Base salary: $100,000–$110,000
  • Target annual bonus: approximately 30% of base salary
  • Potential for carry participation for a strong performer who demonstrates long-term impact
  • Competitive benefits package
