JOB DESCRIPTION:

Full job description

About Greenbelt Alliance:

The Bay Area has a major problem: we arent ready for climate change.
So Greenbelt Alliance is rising to the challenge by educating people, advocating for bold change, and collaborating to address the climate crisis.
We envision a Bay Area of healthy, thriving, resilient communities made up of lands and people that are safe during climate disasters and recover quickly from wildfire, floods, and drought, where everyone is living with nature in new and powerful ways for generations to come.

During Greenbelt Alliances 65-year history as a nonprofit organization, weve led the way in building lasting coalitions to advance meaningful change across the nine-county Bay Area region.
Today, we are leveraging our expertise in land-use policy advocacy and regional collaboration to realize a climate-resilient Bay Area.
The path toward this future is complex and more urgent than ever.
At Greenbelt Alliance, we focus on data-driven and innovative policy solutions fostering much-needed regional collaboration to plan and invest in resilient communities.

About this fellowship opportunity:

To make our critical work possible, we rely on financial support from a variety of donors, foundations, corporations, and agencies across the Bay Area region and beyond.
Our small but mighty Development Team plays a central role in securing the funds Greenbelt Alliance needs to keep moving forward.
We are looking for a candidate to play a supportive role for the Development Team while gaining fundraising and event planning experience for 12 weeks during this summer.

The Fundraising & Events Summer Fellow will play a key role in supporting the Development Team as they plan and execute two major fundraising events this summer.
The Fellow will also gain broad experience in the field of fundraising by supporting the teams day-to-day operations and administrative needs, assisting with the distribution of solicitation and stewardship materials, and leading special research projects.

As part of Greenbelt Alliances Development team, youll support all members of the Development Team including the Director of Major Gifts, the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, and the Senior Development Associate.
The Fellow will also work with staff across Greenbelt Alliance and with external event managers and vendors.

We are looking for a candidate who is well organized with great attention to detail and brings a strong interest in learning about the development/fundraising field.
This role is a great learning opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of philanthropic fundraising, while also familiarizing with the dynamics of a small nonprofit team.
If you meet all of the qualifications above and are passionate and inspired to take action against the climate threats facing the Bay Area, then this may be a great role for you!

Fellow responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Provide on-the-ground support the day-of at Greenbelt Alliances two major annual fundraising events: Hidden Heroes of the Greenbelt and the Blueprint for the Future Gala
  • Assist in event planning and logistic support leading up to these events; including managing guest lists, preparing materials, and providing support and guidance to other staff and volunteers as needed
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the fundraising team and assist with the execution and distribution of print solicitations
  • Assist with the stewardship process for donors by supporting the timely acknowledgment of mail-in gifts
  • Support research efforts for the team by searching for new donor prospects, venues, vendors, and other special research projects as needed

For this fellowship, we are looking for a candidate with the following characteristics:

  • Excellent organizational skills with a focus on efficiency and effectiveness and great attention to detail
  • A thoughtful communicator who values active communication, compassion, being bold, and having fun
  • Self-starter and team-player, who can work collaboratively and independently
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities & tight deadlines
  • Highly values working in teams, and advancing justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace and in our day-to-day work
  • A passion for making a difference and being part of the collective work to address the climate crisis

This fellowship will provide the opportunity to gain knowledge and hands-on experience in the following areas:

  • Understanding of the donor cultivation cycle for institutional, individual, and major donor giving
  • Experience with event planning and guest management
  • Administrative experience in a nonprofit setting
  • Familiarity with a variety of donor management software platforms
  • Knowledge of environmental land use planning and its relationship to climate change

NOTE: Applications for this fellowship will be considered on a rolling basis, however, priority consideration will be given to applications submitted by April 19, 2024.
Please allow several weeks for a response as we review applications.
