General Accountant - Construction Industry - Oakville (Office based role, flexible working hours)Compensation: $80,000-$90,000 + 3 weeks vacation + benefits + RSP match + annual bonus + onsite parking Reporting to the Director of Finance, the General & Project Accountant is responsible for supporting both corporate accounting functions and project‑specific financial oversight. This hybrid role ensures accurate general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, and compliance, while also managing project budgets, cost tracking, forecasting, and billing. Key Responsibilities:Project Accountant Responsibilities – 60% of time and effort• Set up new projects including budgets, cost codes, and billing terms• Track project costs, commitments, and progress against budget• Prepare monthly project financial reports, forecasts, and cost‑to‑complete analysis• Review and validate project‑related invoices, POs, expenses, and payroll allocations• Process progress billings, milestone billings, or cost‑plus invoices as applicable• Work closely with project managers to update budgets, identify risks, and manage financial expectations• Assist in reviewing project contracts for billing requirements and revenue recognition• Reconcile project accounts and finalize financials at project closeout• Support project documentation for audits or client reportingGeneral Accountant Responsibilities – 40% of time and effort• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts• Prepare and post journal entries for month‑end and year‑end close• Complete bank, balance sheet, and general ledger reconciliations• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow monitoring• Prepare financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses• Prepare, review and post monthly WIP adjustments• Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities• Ensure compliance with ASPE and internal controls• Prepare documentation for external audits• Maintain organized financial records and support process improvements• Lead the optimization of the company’s reporting tool, serving as the primary resource for enhancements, troubleshooting, data integrity, and report automationRequirements • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Business with an Accounting focus.• 3+ years of financial reporting experience at an Intermediate/Senior Accountant level• Experience in the construction industry and construction software knowledge would be an asset.• Experience assisting with the external audit process.• Advanced proficiency with MS Office/Excel and ERP• Ability to multi-task, as well as work independently, within a disciplined monthly close schedule
