Job Description
The Facilities department strives to ensure a clean and safe environment that is inclusive and meets the needs of diverse populations on campus. This position is responsible for all housekeeping, general maintenance and repairs required within an assigned area to insure clean, safe, healthful conditions in all spaces of the assigned area at all times. Also, this position requires to assist in safety, security and operations of the college.

Required Qualifications
Knowledge of:
  • English sufficient to perform the required duties described above, using reading, writing and verbal skills.
  • Different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents and equipment.
  • Chemical cleaning agents such as soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply and dispose of safely.
  • Methods, tools and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs.


Ability to:
  • Physical health and endurance sufficient to perform work functions.
  • Follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Perform assigned tasks with limited work direction.
  • Keep simple records.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals in a diverse multicultural and multiracial community.
  • Ability to ascend/descend ladders and high lift.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion with vacuum cleaners, wet and dry mops, and other equipment and tools on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work overhead on a variety of tasks (such as light dusting and cleaning).
  • Ability to think and act quickly in the event of an emergency.
  • Ability to work in a variety of adverse weather conditions, if needed (such as assisting with snow removal on sidewalks).
  • Have a basic understanding to navigate online web browsers, email and Microsoft Office computer programs.

Other Requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires daily moving and/or transporting items up to 100 pounds (with assistance) on an irregular basis and 20-50 pounds on a regular basis. This job also may require moving to a significant degree on rough terrain or may remain in a stationary position with ability to push and pull arm and/or leg controls. This job may require other manual labor including but not limited to shoveling, hauling, moving, pushing, and pulling.

NOTICE: In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business, whether using a rental or state vehicle, shall be required to conform to Minnesota States vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
