Project Overview

iDE is an international nonprofit dedicated to combating poverty in the developing world not through handouts, but by helping rural households access the tools and knowledge they need to increase their income and improve their health and well-being. iDE has 40 years of experience and programs in 12 countries in Africa, South Asia, South East Asia, and Central America.

iDE's vision, to catalyze the power of entrepreneurship to allow millions of people to lift themselves out of poverty, is ambitious and bold.

iDE is seeking a qualified consultant to design a comprehensive Geographic Information System (GIS) to map intervention areas, partnerships, and activities for our global nutrition programming. This system will enhance the organization’s ability to collect, analyze, and visualize spatial data, facilitating better decision-making and program effectiveness.

Objectives

  2. Project Startup: Design initial maps and/or webapps for a large multi-country nutrition project.
  3. System Design: Develop a clear GIS system architecture with shapefile templates for second, third, and (where possible) fourth-level administrative boundaries in each iDE focus country.
  4. Data Integration: Coordinate with the Global MERL team to identify relevant existing data sets for import, opportunities for integration of future monitoring and evaluation data, templates for data import.
  5. Implementation Roadmap: Outline a step-by-step plan for GIS system deployment and ongoing support.

Key Deliverables

  1. Static multi-country map covering iDE nutrition portfolio projects. Map should include layers identifying project geography categorized by intervention area (WASH, Agriculture, Livelihoods, etc);
  2. Library of default shapefiles for all 12 iDE countries identifying administrative divisions at the district or sub-district (fourth-level) where possible;
  3. Template for importing basic project start-up data (eg. project geography, programmatic sector, target population, etc) for future projects;

Requirements

Consultant Qualifications

  • Proven experience in GIS system design and implementation, preferably in the NGO sector;
  • Strong understanding of agriculture, nutrition, and WASH interventions as well as best practices for Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL);
  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and data integration techniques;
  • Excellent communication and training skills;

Reporting and Communication

The consultant will report to the Senior Manager for Nutrition Programs. Regular meetings will be held to discuss progress, challenges, and next steps.
