Role Overview:
A Civil Engineering Firm is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Department Manager to lead the geotechnical engineering team in the South Daytona office. This critical role involves managing projects and staff, overseeing quality control and technical standards, contributing to business development, and driving overall department success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the full lifecycle of geotechnical engineering projects from conception through completion.
- Lead a team of geotechnical engineers, geologists, project managers, and technicians.
- Ensure projects adhere to geotechnical engineering best practices, safety standards, and quality control procedures.
- Conduct technical reviews of proposals, reports, and calculations.
- Track department budgets, revenue, forecasts, and financial performance.
- Set goals for the geotechnical group and foster staff development through training initiatives.
- Assist senior leadership with business development efforts, including community involvement and client engagement.
- Promote company values, a positive work culture, and high employee engagement.
- Oversee geotechnical and field services projects, ensuring quality execution.
- Lead and mentor geotechnical engineers and project managers to drive technical excellence.
- Prepare, review, and ensure the accuracy of geotechnical engineering reports.
- Prepare proposals for geotechnical services to attract new business opportunities.
- Manage departmental P&L to ensure financial health and project profitability.
- Assist senior staff in marketing and promoting the firm's services by maintaining regular client contact.
Required Experience & Skills:
- 10+ years of experience in civil/geotechnical engineering.
- Proven leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- In-depth technical knowledge of geotechnical engineering concepts and applications.
- Strong track record of managing budgets, forecasts, and P&L responsibilities.
- Business development experience with a history of engaging clients and winning projects.
- Familiarity with geotechnical conditions and the construction industry.
Required Education & Certifications:
BS in Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering from an ABET-accredited college/university.
Preferred Education & Certifications:
MS in Civil Engineering with a geotechnical emphasis preferred.
A licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) is preferred; if unlicensed, the ability to obtain licensure within three months of hire is required.
