Overview UpstreamPgh, formerly the Nine Mile Run Watershed Association, recently celebrated 20 years as a 501c3, and 15 years since the completion of the Nine Mile Run Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration in Frick Park. Throughout the years the work of Upstream has migrated from Frick Park and into the upper watershed: Upstream. Our projects and programs are aimed at reconnecting people to the environment through nature-based solutions like green stormwater infrastructure. Position Overview UpstreamPgh has three program areas: Advocate, Engage, and Plan/Build. The GIS Analyst Intern will assist our Plan/Build Director with the development of a suitability analysis of the Mon Water Project (MWP) service area within the City of Pittsburgh. The GIS Analyst intern will work with the Plan/Build Director and Executive Director to collect and analyze data, develop models using ModelBuilder in ArcGIS Pro and develop a final StoryMap sharing results of the analysis with the public. The GIS Analyst Intern will work closely with MWP staff and community members in the MWP service area to inform the analysis and incorporate feedback. Key project milestones are listed below. Task 1- Data Selection | June 1st 2026 Task 2 - Data Analysis | July 1st, 2026 Task 3 - Model Development | October 1st, 2026 Task 4 - Model Review | November 1st, 2026 Task 5 - Storymap Development | January 1st, 2027 Task 6 - Model and Storymap Revision | February 1st, 2027 Knowledge Skills and Abilities Familiarity with GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and StoryMaps. Familiarity with environmental justice data and policies. Understands how to analyze and interpret GIS data. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels internally and externally. Comfortable working with community members and partners. Experience High School degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field required. 2-4 years of relevant coursework in GIS.
