Job Title: Government Funds Accountant

Location: Sacramento, CA
Assignment Duration: 6 Months
Work Schedule: On-site | Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Government Funds Accountant to support the financial oversight and compliance review of federally funded programs. This role is primarily responsible for reviewing reimbursement draw requests submitted by internal departments for federal grant funding, ensuring costs are allowable, properly documented, and compliant with applicable federal regulations. The position also supports audit preparation, reporting, and subrecipient monitoring activities.

Responsibilities
  • Review reimbursement draw requests submitted by departments for federally funded programs

  • Perform sample-based reviews of costs claimed against executed contracts

  • Review contract terms and compare expenditures to approved project scopes for consistency

  • Reconcile claimed costs to financial systems (SAP/ERP) to confirm expenditures and payments

  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Treasury regulations, Federal OMB guidelines, and contract requirements

  • Assist in compiling federal expenditures for SEFA (Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards) reporting

  • Serve as a liaison during internal or external audits related to federal funding programs

  • Assist with subrecipient monitoring in accordance with federal compliance requirements

  • Perform additional accounting and financial analysis tasks as needed during normal operations

  • Support the Accounting Manager with reporting and compliance-related initiatives

Required Skills & Competencies
  • Strong foundational knowledge of accounting principles and practices

  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including cost accounting

  • Ability to analyze, reconcile, and interpret complex financial data

  • Experience preparing financial reports and supporting compliance documentation

  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable experience, preferably within an automated financial system

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration

Experience Requirements
  • 2–4 years of professional accounting experience

  • Experience with government funds, grants, or federally funded programs preferred
