This is a full-time (40 hours), 10-month position with occasional summer responsibilities, reporting to the Assistant Head of School and Lower School Principal. 

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Plan and implement the first-grade curriculum, including Language Arts, Math, Science or Social Studies, and social and emotional learning. 
  • Use pedagogical best practices, learning standards, and assessments to drive student growth and achievement.  
  • Create a positive and safe classroom culture and community utilizing best practices in social-emotional learning and culturally responsive teaching.            
  • Develop and maintain a strong collaborative relationship with the other fourth-grade homeroom teacher to foster a well-rounded first-grade experience for each student.                   
  • Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Supervise students during all aspects of the instructional day, including lunch and recess.
  • Supervise and support students during their weekly outdoor education experience.
  • Communicate regularly with families about students’ academic, social, and emotional growth.  
  • Work with the Lower School Principal to ensure high-quality education and the most engaging experience for students. 
  • Collaborate with the Lower School Team.
  • Maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and parents. 
  • Maintain confidentiality with student information and records. 
  • Actively engage in the work of innovative teaching, diversity and inclusion, and ongoing professional growth. 
  • Actively participate in a professional learning community, including reading and being familiar with relevant professional literature and research, participating in peer coaching, reflection meetings, planning meetings, data meetings, and staff meetings.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (Master’s preferred) 
  • Demonstrated experience in elementary education 
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in classroom management
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in a small group model for language arts, math, and writing
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other faculty members
  • Demonstrated commitment to belonging, well-being, and inclusive pedagogy
  • Proficiency in integrating educational technology into instruction
  • Educational philosophy which aligns with the mission and vision of Indian Creek School 
  • Ability to participate in the outdoor learning program, including walking on uneven surfaces, being outdoors in all safe weather conditions, and leading student groups through wooded environments.
  • Preferred: Experience teaching Singapore Math and Open Court curriculum

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate's years of experience at an educational institution and prior administrative experience and responsibilities. Candidates will be offered a competitive salary and are exempt from overtime within the range of $55,000 - $95,000, dependent on experience.  

In addition to the annual salary, Indian Creek School offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as life insurance, critical illness and accident coverage, and both short- and long-term disability for the employee and their eligible dependents.   We offer a 403 (b) retirement plan with employer match to help you plan for the future. PTO includes vacation, sick, holiday, and parental/family leave.
