We are seeking a motivated lender to step into the role of Green Lending Specialist (GLS), a key position supporting our expanding Green Lending Program.Our Green Lending Program helps members finance:Solar panelsEnergy-efficient HVAC systemsElectric vehiclesInsulation and windowsOther energy-saving home upgradesAnd so much more!This program supports our mission of "Providing our members the resources to develop strong financial roots" while expanding access to affordable financing especially in underserved and low-to-moderate income communities. This is more than a specialty lending role, it's an opportunity to help members save money, increase home comfort, and make environmentally responsible choices.Responsibilities include:Lead Green Loan OriginationsGuide members through the application and closing process, eventually helping with underwriting.Educate members on energy-efficient upgrades and long-term cost savingsEnsure complete and accurate documentationEngage in financial counseling as needed.Support Underwriting (when needed) & ProcessingReview credit applications for accuracy and completenessCollaborate with underwritersEnsure compliance with policy and regulatory standardsTrack loan activity for reporting and grant requirementsBe a Green Lending ChampionBecome our internal subject matter expert on green financing, rebates, and incentivesResearch grants and funding opportunitiesSupport outreach efforts and community educationBe willing to get out into the community to help grow the programThis position is ideal for someone who:Has lending and loan closing experience (minimum 1 year required experience with lending)Demonstrates our ROOTs values every dayIsn't afraid to learn a new lending nicheEnjoys educating members and finding solutionsHas strong attention to detailIs comfortable working both independently and collaborativelyHas the energy and initiative to help grow a developing programIs open to community engagement and relationship-buildingHas great communication skills, both with members and co workers.Must be MMS III or higher and have completed Cohesion Culture and The Member Advantage trainings. Underwriting experience is preferred but not required. Financial Counselor Certified preferred but not required. Kzoo region is preferred, but not required. GLS will need to be willing to go to Kalamazoo branches and help build green loans in that area, specifically solar.
