The Public Health Department promotes the health of the entire community through varied programs ranging from control of communicable diseases and coordination of the response to health emergencies to individual case management to primary prevention of disease and health education. Join our dynamic, professional team committed to keeping Nevada County's residents safe and healthy!

The HIV CARE Health Education Coordinator (Temporary) provides non-medical care management services to Nevada County residents living with HIV/AIDS. Services include:
  • Assisting clients with benefits counseling and enrollment in state programs, so clients can access and remain in medical care.
  • Coordinating with other community organizations and advising/assisting clients in obtaining medical, pharmaceutical, social, community, legal, financial and other needed services.
  • Providing direct assistance in meeting housing, utilities and other critical needs.
  • Meeting with community service and/or health providers, including local medical providers, to assist in expanding the knowledge base of care providers in meeting the treatment needs of those living with HIV/AIDS.
  • Ensuring that all funding/grant and programmatic requirements are met by maintaining all appropriate records and documentation.
In addition, the position supports the Departments HIV/Hepatitis C testing clinic through education and outreach. The ideal candidate will:
  • Hold the equivalent to Bachelor's degree (Master's degree is preferred), from an accredited college or university in Public or Community Health Education or a related field plus a minimum of two years experience directing or providing case management or staff support to a health education program.
  • Be committed to and participate in the departments ongoing work to address the impact of stigma and towards diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to adapt their communication style to meet the needs of both internal and external customers.
  • Work independently, able to prioritize work and remain flexible when priorities shift.
  • Be a detail oriented, self-starter who can apply critical thinking skills to daily work and special projects. Will also possess a high level of emotional intelligence and empathy.
  • Work well with a variety of individuals from various diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of their work.
  • Be software/system/database intuitive, possessing strong Microsoft Office suite skills.
  • Experience in health care or a related setting a plus, but not required.
This position is temporary, part-time and expected to last approximately 3 months. A temporary, part-time employee works on average 16 hours per week but not more than 29 hours per week, for a maximum of 1000 hours per fiscal year. Temporary employees earn sick leave, but do not earn other vacation or holiday pay, and are not eligible for medical, dental, or vision benefits, or CalPERS. Please note the salary listed for the position is not pro-rated to the 1000 hours of annual work. To determine maximum annual pay, multiply the hourly wage by the 1000 hours for the position.
