Position Summary
The Health Unit Coordinator is responsible for overall flow and coordination of activities within the patient care unit, maintaining good public relations with patients, visitors, staff, and physicians, and preserving confidentiality. The role includes precepting newly hired Health Unit Coordinators, handling research orders, scheduling patient appointments upon discharge, and ensuring timely submission of time and attendance for team members.
Responsibilities
Coordinate with other departments and team members to address patient care needs.
Maintain and update patient records as appropriate.
Answer phones and respond to patient requests.
Schedule follow-up appointments for discharged patients.
Order supplies, including specialty supplies, enter work requests, and complete related administrative tasks.
Review and ensure proper charge capture according to unit charge master.
Serve as minute taker for unit staff meetings.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Knowledge of general clerical practices and procedures.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Experience working in a hospital or ambulatory care setting (preferred).
Health Unit Coordinator or Unit Secretary experience (preferred).
One year of experience in the healthcare setting preferred but not mandatory.
Salary
Salary Range: $16.75 - $25.27 per hour. Salary may vary based on location and job-related factors such as experience, skills, education, and internal equity.
