Job Description:

The Earthwork Estimator prepares cost estimates by analyzing requests for proposals, reviewing bid instructions, blueprints, specifications, and related bid documents. Works with subcontractors and vendors to obtain proposal pricing to incorporate in the bid estimate.

Responsibilities

The Earthwork Estimator is responsible for calculating cost of a broad range of projects.

The goal is to provide accurate information that will help in operations and strategic planning.

Performs quantity takeoffs, creates estimate and produces proposal.

Works with the Chief Estimator and Project Manager.

Supervision of Earthwork team including metrics and performance.

Maintain existing and develop new client relationships.

Acquire understanding of the requirements of the project at hand.

Attend job walk, perform quantity takeoffs, review all bid documents, perform risk analysis.

Prepare detailed proposals for submission to clients.

Request and evaluate sub bids.

Strong understanding of industry practices, processes, standards, technology, equipment methods, cost controls, schedule, etc. and their impact on projects.

Foster effective relationships with key vendors, subs and clients.

Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.

Display excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in civil engineering, construction management or relevant field and a minimum of five years heavy civil projects estimating experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proven experience as an earthwork estimator, mass excavation, structural excavation, tight access excavation and site grading.

Understanding of accounting and project management concepts.

Comfortable with numbers and technology.

Well organized, with attention to detail and reliable.

Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or other qualification will be a plus.
