Salary: Expected hiring range of $20.40 to $27.16, depending on qualifications; Full range for this position is $20.40 to $33.77. Competitive Leave and Benefits package. 40-hour work week: M - F, 6:30 am 2:30 pm, overtime required. Responds to emergencies during and after normal business hours. Drug & Alcohol screening is a condition of employment.
This position works under the supervision of the Highway Manager and operates a variety of motor driven vehicles and equipment including trucks with a rated capacity of more than 26,001 lbs. G.V.W. (Gross Vehicle Weight), tractors, road sweepers, etc. in the provision of public works services; performs all other related work as required.
- Applicants must meet the following to be considered qualified for this position:
- High School Equivalency and one to three (1 - 3) years experience operating equipment and trucks in construction and maintenance work.
- Knowledge of procedures used to operate and maintain heavy equipment; occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with staff and management; execute verbal and written instructions; able to prioritize and complete multiple tasks at the same time with frequent interruptions; utilize email software and a smartphone.
- Skilled in the operation and maintenance of heavy motorized equipment including operating equipment over rough and unstable terrain; use of power-driven hand tools.
- Must be able to operate heavy motor equipment as required such as backhoe, front end loader, street sweeper, sanders and plow, per department safety procedures.
Preferred licensing and certifications:
- Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B
- Hoisting Engineer License, Class 2B or greater
