This position works under the supervision of the Highway Manager and operates a variety of motor driven vehicles and equipment including trucks with a rated capacity of more than 26,001 lbs.

- Applicants must meet the following to be considered qualified for this position:

  • High School Equivalency and one to three (1 - 3) years experience operating equipment and trucks in construction and maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of procedures used to operate and maintain heavy equipment; occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with staff and management; execute verbal and written instructions; able to prioritize and complete multiple tasks at the same time with frequent interruptions; utilize email software and a smartphone.
  • Skilled in the operation and maintenance of heavy motorized equipment including operating equipment over rough and unstable terrain; use of power-driven hand tools.
  • Must be able to operate heavy motor equipment as required such as backhoe, front end loader, street sweeper, sanders and plow, per department safety procedures.

Preferred licensing and certifications:

  • Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B
  • Hoisting Engineer License, Class 2B or greater
