Job Summary:
This position involves providing direct patient care in a hospital, clinic, or long-term care facility. Tasks include assisting patients with daily living activities, monitoring their conditions, and supporting medical staff. Shifts may rotate across different care units (e.g., medical, surgical, skilled nursing).
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with bathing, dressing, grooming, and oral hygiene.
- Help patients with toileting and manage bladder/bowel training as needed.
- Measure and document vital signs, intake/output, and other patient data.
- Collect specimens for analysis and administer enemas under supervision.
- Prepare patients for meals, verify dietary requirements, and assist with feeding.
- Transport patients via gurneys or wheelchairs and assist with mobility exercises.
- Perform routine treatments and assist in oxygen administration as directed.
- Maintain patient care areas, ensuring cleanliness and safety.
- Participate in recreational and therapeutic activities.
- Document patient care and observations, reporting any changes to nursing staff.
- Follow safety and infection control protocols.
Additional Duties:
- Support patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Sterilize equipment and report maintenance issues.
- Attend training and in-service education programs.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of personal hygiene, basic nursing procedures, and infection control.
- Ability to communicate effectively and provide age-specific care.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and facility information.
Supervision:
This role operates under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse (RPN).
