Position Title: Highway Maintenance Craftsperson

Salary: Grade 6L, Step 5 Starting at $18.36 per hour + License
Licenses: Valid Class B Drivers License, Valid Class A Drivers License within one year of hire
SUMMARY
The City of Chicopees Department of Public Works Highway Division is hiring a Highway Maintenance Craftsperson to be responsible for maintaining roadways, sidewalks, lawns, trees, drains, sewer lines, and public infrastructure such as buildings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE
- Perform excavation, bracing, sheet pilling and grading.
- Fill potholes and cave-ins
- Maintains, cleans and construct sewers, catch basins, drains and manholes.
- Actively participates in snow and ice removal operations.
- Lays sewer pipe and house waste connections
- Constructs sidewalk forms and finishes concrete.
- Supervises others and works, in the building and maintenance trades.
- Other duties as assigned per the full job description.
QUALIFICATIONS
To be minimally qualified for this position, one must meet the following criteria:
- High school diploma or equivalent level of education (GED/ HiSet); or a minimum of one month of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Class B Drivers license
- Knowledge and experience in construction, street and building maintenance, carpentry and/or other skilled crafts along with knowledge of a variety of hand and power tools.
- Must obtain a Massachusetts Class A Drivers License within one (1) year of hire.

This role is classified as Grade 06L, Step 5, with a minimum starting pay of_ $18.36 per hour + Licenses_, with periodic step and pay increases upon continuous completion of employment with the City of Chicopee.
