Job Title: Material Handler
Job Description
The Material Handler receives, inspects, and stocks incoming materials and products, and prepares accurate, well-organized shipments for customers and internal locations. This role supports both warehouse and production operations by moving materials efficiently, maintaining accurate inventory records, and operating material handling equipment safely.
Responsibilities
- Receive incoming materials and products, inspect them for accuracy and quality, and stock them in the appropriate locations.
- Print shipping orders and perform picking and packing tasks to prepare items for shipment.
- Pick customer orders accurately and assemble shipments using banding and shrink wrap equipment.
- Properly palletize parts and finished goods for freight shipments, including wrapping and weighing pallets.
- Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently.
- Transport materials within the warehouse and production areas to support daily operations.
- Route goods to designated areas within production according to established procedures.
- Operate a box truck to transport goods to satellite warehouse locations in compliance with DOT requirements.
- Utilize handheld RF scanners and computer systems to log inventory transactions and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Become certified in-house to operate forklifts and other powered industrial equipment.
- Operate pallet jacks, sit-down forklifts, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Support general labor and production activities as needed to meet operational demands.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures while working in shipping, receiving, and general production areas.
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of experience in material handling and shipping.
- Hands-on experience in a warehouse or production environment.
- Proficiency with shipping and receiving processes, including picking, packing, loading, and unloading.
- Ability to operate pallet jacks and sit-down forklifts or willingness to become certified in-house.
- Experience using RF scanners and computer systems for inventory tracking.
- Capability to perform general labor and material handling tasks safely and efficiently.
- Ability to operate or learn to operate a box truck in accordance with DOT guidelines.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate order picking, labeling, and documentation.
- Ability to work on feet for extended periods and handle physical aspects of loading, unloading, and palletizing.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in shipping and receiving within a production or manufacturing setting.
- Experience in general production or bottling, test strip, or kitting operations is beneficial.
- Familiarity with inventory control practices and record-keeping.
- Comfort working with banding, shrink wrap, and palletizing equipment.
- Willingness to obtain in-house certification on forklifts and other powered industrial equipment.
- Basic understanding of DOT considerations when operating a box truck.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a production team of approximately 100 people.

Work Environment
The role is based in a production and warehouse environment within a facility known worldwide for manufacturing chemicals and test kits for monitoring water quality. The operation supports nearly 600 different test-kit configurations, including wet-chemistry and dry-chemistry methods, as well as microprocessor-based instruments. You will work closely with a production team of around 100 people and collaborate with both warehouse and production staff. The primary shift for this position is 1st shift, running from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The environment involves typical production and warehouse conditions, including working around material handling equipment, pallets, and freight shipments, while following established safety and operational procedures.E
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sparks, MD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
