Position Overview:

We are looking for a Human Resource Generalist to support recruitment efforts, maintain employee records, and ensure payroll compliance. This position is ideal for a proactive, self-starter who is comfortable juggling multiple responsibilities and is eager to gain hands-on experience across various HR functions.

Key Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Staffing:

  • Oversee staffing requisitions and collaborate with hiring managers.
  • Post job openings and efficiently screen candidates.
  • Ensure compliance with all hiring policies and procedures throughout the recruitment lifecycle.

Employee Records & Data Management:

  • Maintain and update personnel records with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Address employee inquiries and provide responsive HR support.

Communication & Documentation:

  • Prepare and draft internal and external communications, including letters, forms, and reports.

Payroll & General HR Support:

  • Assist with payroll-related matters and ensure HR systems remain compliant.
  • Handle additional HR tasks and special projects as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong interpersonal and business writing skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word.
  • HR certification (PHR, SPHR, or equivalent) is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of state personnel laws, compensation policies, and benefits programs.
Required Skills & Abilities:
  • In-depth understanding of HR processes in large organizations.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to provide data-driven recommendations.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills and attention to detail.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-3 years of HR experience, preferably in a government or large-scale organization setting.
