The Department of New York Disabled American Veterans (DAV) is a tax- exempt veteran’s organization. Our mission is “To improve the quality of life for all Disabled Veterans and their families”. We are NOT a medical facility but we are a Headquarters facility for 45 Chapters throughout the State of New York. We pride ourselves on keeping a professional yet friendly work environment. We are looking for a reliable and versatile Human Resources Generalist to join our team and keep our mission and success in the media and social media venues.

 

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for managing daily HR operations, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, and performance management. This role supports both employees and management to foster a productive, inclusive, and compliant workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer employee onboarding, orientation, and offboarding processes
  • Assist with recruitment efforts including posting jobs, screening candidates, and coordinating interviews
  • Maintain and update employee records
  • Ensure legal compliance with labor laws and internal policies
  • Support employee relations efforts including conflict resolution, investigations, and disciplinary actions
  • Assist with benefits enrollment, changes, and communications
  • Support performance review and employee development programs
  • Maintain HR documents such as policies, procedures, and organizational charts
  • Generate HR reports and metrics as needed
  • Participate in HR projects and initiatives to enhance employee experience and organizational culture

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • Experience: 2 plus years of HR experience, preferably in a generalist role

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of HR laws, regulations, and best practices
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
  • Attention to detail and strong multitasking ability

Working Conditions:

  • Office-based role with occasional travel for recruiting or training
  • May require extended hours during peak HR activities
