Essential Duties and Application of Knowledge: Knowledgeable about screening for medical necessity requirementsFamiliar with our Reference laboratory & interface (ATLAS)Follows drug screen/BAT protocols per each client s specific needsResponsible for performing and understanding quality control rules and documentationObtains, receives and processes specimensAnalyzes specimensInterprets test resultsReports accurate test resultsPerforms work in any laboratory station of Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Blood Bank, urinalysis, Blood Gas and PhlebotomyManages and operates equipment safelyCompetent in phlebotomy on all patient ages; birth to geriatricProfessional and Personal Responsibility Reports to work on time and able to complete patient care activities within work shift without compromising qualityAdapts to changing workload as requiredCompletes annual educational requirements & attends in-services and meetings when requiredAttends staff meetings; reads, initials and returns all monthly staff meeting minutesComplies with all infection control practicesKnowledge of blood borne pathogens, universal precautions, hazardous chemicals and fire and safety policies and proceduresMaintains knowledge of and adheres to all hospital policiesComplies with all requirements of the Illinois Department of Public Health, OSHA, CMS and other regulatory and professional standards and hospital policiesAdheres to dress code, appearance is neat and cleanWears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.Interpersonal Skills/Communications/Human Relations Communicates in a courteous and respectful manner with patients, families, visitors, medical staff, nursing personnel and other departmentsAnswer the telephones in a polite mannerAttends staff meetings regularly and collaboratively interacts to generate ideas and outcomesMaintains ethical standards related to confidentiality, HIPAA and DHHS privacy and security regulationsRepresents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Promotes and actively participates in the C.A.T.C.H. initiativeRegulatory Requirements: Successfully complete an accredited MLT/CLS, MT/MLS program and have an Associates or Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science, Applied Science, chemical, physical or biological science Successful completion of the ASCP/AMT registry exam.Recommended one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills: Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions Other Skills and Abilities Ability to remember words, numbers, procedures and pieces of information, Ability to work on multiple tasks at one time with good organizational skills, judgment and technical skills, Analytical skills necessary in order to interpret routine tests, recognize abnormal test results and troubleshoot equipment, Knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served, Demonstrate patience, tact, professionalism and enthusiasm
