Assignment Start Date: 5/12/2025

20 weeks | Days | 8-hour shift | 40 hours weekly

The staff therapist coordinates, delegates, and supervises responsibilities assigned to supportive staff (PTA, Patient Care Assist., etc.). The staff therapist participates in operational aspects of the department, maintains performance improvement activities within the department, and participates in QI activities.

  • Responsible for evaluation, planning, directing, and administering physical therapy modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed physician.
  • Administers treatments and physical agents as prescribed by a referring physician to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease, or physical disability.
  • Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.
  • Provides input in formulating budget, assists in evaluating department performance versus budget controls, and takes appropriate action to remain within budget guidelines.
  • Ensures that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis.
  • Participates in all infection control, departmental equipment training, organizational safety, and fire safety programs.
  • Responsible for the direction of the Physical Therapy Department certified staff, including Physical Therapy Assistants and Patient care assistants.
  • Ability to observe and evaluate treatment effects and recommend a change to the physician as needed.
  • Ability to perform an appropriate assessment on all patients as related to the therapy requested and provided reassessments as per policy. This includes pediatric, adolescent, geriatric patients, and the general patient population.
  • Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates the effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competency of physical therapy modalities.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and families.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety.
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, and administrative team.
  • Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients' needs are met and hospital policy is followed.
  • Maintains records pertinent to personnel and operation of the department.
  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organize,d and function under stressful situations.
  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Consult other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Assists with orientation and in-service training for other department staff members or hospital staff, PRN.
  • Actively participates in quality improvement and continuous quality assurance activities.
  • Other duties assigned.
  • Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Maintains current knowledge of hospital policies and adheres to all policies.
  • Adheres to all HIPAA and DHHS privacy and security regulations.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled and completes work within the designated time.
  • Wears identification while on duty, and uses computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Represents the organization positively and professionally.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements State, Federal, regulating, and standard
  • Communicates the Mission, Vision, and Value of the hospital and maintains the Standards of Behavior.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety, and infection control.
  • Maintains medical staff rules/requirements as well as regulatory body standards.
  • Support CMH on the continuous culture improvement journey aimed at improving customer satisfaction and employee relations.
  • Accountability to provide service excellence to our patients and co-workers.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION

Experience:

  • Experience in all aspects of physical therapy.

Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registration:

  • Current State Physical Therapy Licensure, graduate of an approved school of Physical Therapy or graduate of an accredited college or university with a certificate in Physical Therapy.
  • Current BCLS (CPR) certification.

EMR System: Experience desired

Shift: Mon - Fri

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Knowledge of physical medicine, physical therapy modalities, anatomy, and physiology
  • Knowledge of physical therapy machine operation, maintenance, and repairs of same.
