Industrial Hygiene SpecialistHelp perform industrial hygiene inspections, surveys, and evaluations.Help assess work practices to identify the population at risk and to detect violations of published health standards.Help evaluate the need for quantitative assessment of air contamination, noise, and other physical stressors as well as the quantitative assessment of ventilation systems.Help recommend engineering controls to correct deficiencies where feasible.Help provide consultation and advice to activities on occupational health problems and concerns.Must be a US Citizen.Must be determined suitable for federal employment.Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.In accordance with BUMEDINST 6220.9B, the incumbent must be immunized on an annual basis against influenza.In addition to the Basic Education Requirement, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:Experience conducting inspections and applying industrial hygiene concepts, principles and practices.Experience recognizing and evaluating occupational health hazards, including those for which the nature and extent of the hazard is not completely understood.Experience devising a variety of control measures, including ventilation, shielding, material substitution, change in work procedures, isolation, education, personal protective devices.Experience evaluating proposed new work processes and/or materials and recommend measures to minimize health hazards.Experience with Federal, DoD, Navy and other relevant regulations pertaining to occupational health and hazardous materials.Experience using industrial hygiene sampling techniques and instrumentation.Experience with Microsoft Office Suite software products (e.g. Word, Excel, and/or Access), and Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System - Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS - IH) or similar.Applicants must possess:A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related scienceA bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygieneCertification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
