Job Description
Industrial Maintenance Mechanic — Utilities & Mechanical Systems

Build, fix, and keep a busy plant running. MAU is adding a hands-on Industrial Maintenance Mechanic to support our client in Rutherfordton, NC. Your craft will keep vital utilities and production equipment reliable so operations never miss a beat.

A day in your workboots

You arrive and review turnover notes from the prior shift. A quick walk-through confirms steam and condensate are balanced, chilled and cooling water loops are stable, and compressed air and power are steady. You queue up a planned roll change, complete lube-oil and hydraulic fluid services, and clear 5S tasks so the area is tight. Mid-shift, a technician radios in about an HVAC alarm—you diagnose, make adjustments, and log everything so the next team picks up right where you leave off.

What you'll tackle
  • Troubleshoot, service, and sustain plant utility systems: steam/condensate, chilled and cooling water, hot oil, HVAC, compressed air, electrical power, and related infrastructure.
  • Execute roll replacements and machine set-ups; perform preventive maintenance including lube-oil and hydraulic drain/refills; complete 5S and other mechanical assignments as needed.
  • Capture accurate records of equipment changes, failures, and corrective actions.
  • Support day-to-day routine maintenance alongside the team.
  • Inspect systems visually and by instrument; monitor processes to catch leaks, failures, or abnormal conditions; document and escalate maintenance needs; carry out PM checks and procedures.
  • Coordinate with adjoining shifts to maintain continuity of operations and awareness of current conditions.
  • Stay current on applicable codes/regulations and new technologies; participate in trainings and workshops.
  • Work overtime when required to complete scheduled roll-replacement work.
Schedule options
  • 1st Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (Monday–Friday)
  • 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM (Monday–Friday)
  • Weekend Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (Saturday and Sunday)
What you bring
  • No specific minimum education required.
  • Preferred: Associate Degree in Mechanical Technology or a related discipline.
  • 2–3 years of experience in an industrial maintenance/engineering setting.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment and its operational needs.
  • Mechanical troubleshooting ability, including use of test instruments.
  • Microsoft Office skills for documentation and communication.
  • Team-first mindset and clear communication across shifts.
Physical and environmental demands
  • Industrial manufacturing environment with frequent interaction with machinery, plant equipment, and utilities.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.; lift up to 75 lbs. frequently during 8–12 hour shifts.
  • Stand, walk, kneel, squat, and bend for extended periods.
  • Climb stairs and ladders as needed.
  • Work in overhead and below-knee positions and other awkward postures.
  • Push/pull toolboxes throughout the facility.
Benefits
