Under the general direction of the Deputy Fire Chief, the Information Technology (IT) Specialist performs skilled technical work to support, maintain, and troubleshoot the Missoula Rural Fire District’s (District) information systems, hardware, software, and network resources. The position configures and maintains equipment, implements solutions selected by District leadership, and provides day-to-day technical assistance to end users. Work is performed following established procedures, District policies, and industry best practices. Benefits include the following: Paid sick leave Paid annual vacation leave Paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and family Longevity pay Annual clothing allowance 6% employer contribution to a 457‑tax deferred retirement system Montana Public Employee’s Retirement System Annual Salary: $65,000 - $75,000, depending on experience. MRFD is located in picturesque Western Montana and proudly serves a population of more than 38,000. MRFD is a full‑service fire district covering 84 square miles in Missoula County. There are currently five fire stations that operate 24 hours a day. MRFD employs a Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, and five civilian positions. Operations include 54 career firefighters who work a 24/48 schedule. MRFD is also supported by up to 15 volunteer firefighters. The community offers outstanding opportunities for outdoor recreation including kayaking, camping, hiking, fishing, skiing, and cycling, and it is home to the University of Montana. Missoula is the state’s second‑largest city and is known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, excellent dining, shopping, and easy access to seven surrounding wilderness areas. Missoula is consistently ranked as an exceptional community in which to live and work.
