Infrastructure Technical Lead/Software Engineer IV
Grainger is looking for an experienced Senior Technical Lead / Software Engineer IV/V to work in a fast‑paced development environment. The qualified candidate will work collaboratively with Leaders, Domain Team Technical Product Managers and Technical Leads along with Architects to drive product design and deliver solutions in a hybrid (On‑Premises and Cloud) environment. They work with the various Services Technical Leads by providing input into planning and execution of product roadmaps and backlog priorities.
Grainger’s Infrastructure Engineers are hybrid software/systems engineers who build, test, deploy, and support products, platforms and solutions. Our team is comprised of varying levels of experience and backgrounds, from new grads to industry veterans. Relevant industry experience is important (Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), Systems Engineer, Software Engineer, DevOps Engineer, Network Engineer, Systems Administrator, Linux Administrator, Database Administrator or similar role), but ultimately less so than your demonstrated abilities and attitude. The Senior Technical Lead prescribes strategic and technical direction and provides guidance to the future.
Compensation
The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is $146,200.00 – $243,600.00. This role is eligible for an incentive target of up to 20 % based on the achievement of individual and company performance objectives in accordance with the current terms of the incentive program which are subject to change.

You Will:
This position will require technical and people leadership.
In-depth knowledge of cloud configuration and management.
Strong knowledge with containers (Kubernetes), along with Data Center infrastructure understanding.
Excellent communication skills are a must.
Provide strategic direction regarding architecture and providing input into the organizational drivers for the future of our platform.
You Have:
Engineering degree, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.
People leadership experience.
Experience with advanced System engineering/Architecture/Administration in a large and distributed environment.
Ability to demonstrate test‑driven development or related experience.
Ability to evaluate solutions and tools for self‑service capabilities.
Experience with cloud services including containers.
Solid understanding of cloud computing design and security principles.
Demonstrated understanding / proficiency in application containerization, APIs or web services.
Knowledge of common DevOps tools such as Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Jenkins, Git.
Knowledge of CI/CD principles and techniques.
Utilizing pipelines to build and deploy code and services.
Wide range of knowledge across IT disciplines including software, hardware, network engineering.
Demonstrable experience working on complex programs, projects, and large cross‑functional teams.
Experience using orchestration tools / deploying infrastructure as code (eg Terraform, CloudFormation, etc).
Documentation and training for support staff to turnover new development and engineering process or builds.
Planning and execution for developed solutions from conception to decommission.
