Inside Sales Representative – Steel Service Center
Location: Gary, IN
A steel service center in the Gary, IN market is looking to add an Inside Sales Representative to support day-to-day customer activity and drive revenue across an established base of business. This role sits at the center of the operation, working closely with customers, mills, and internal teams to keep orders moving and capitalize on opportunities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage inbound inquiries, RFQs, and order entry for flat-rolled steel products including coil, sheet, and slit coil
- Support and grow an existing customer base by maintaining consistent communication around pricing, availability, and lead times
- Work directly with mills and suppliers to source material and secure competitive pricing
- Coordinate with operations on processing capabilities including slitting and cut-to-length to ensure accurate order fulfillment
- Partner with outside sales to support account management and identify opportunities for growth within existing accounts
- Track market conditions and pricing trends to stay competitive and maximize margin on each order
- Handle multiple orders and priorities at once in a high-volume environment
What They’re Looking For:
- Prior inside sales experience within a steel service center or metals distribution environment
- Strong understanding of flat-rolled steel products and how they move through a service center (processing, sourcing, lead times, etc.)
- Ability to operate with urgency and accuracy in a fast-paced setting
- Comfortable managing customer relationships while balancing pricing, margin, and service expectations
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
