Underground Pipe & Inspection Services Operator Position Summary

The Underground Pipe & Inspection Services Operator is responsible for performing field operations related to underground utility inspection, cleaning, testing, and rehabilitation. This position requires hands-on operation of specialized equipment including hydro excavation units, CCTV inspection systems, vacuum testing rigs, and pipe rehabilitation tools. The operator ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with municipal, state, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities Inspection & Cleaning

Operate CCTV inspection systems to document the internal condition of sewer and storm pipelines.
Perform Cross Bore Inspections using robotic or push cameras to identify and report utility conflicts.
Conduct Mandrel Testing to verify the integrity and roundness of newly installed sewer lines.
Execute Sewer and Storm Pipe Cleaning using high-pressure jetting and vacuum equipment.
Operate Vacuum Trucks for Manhole Testing and pipeline debris removal.
Complete Air Pressure Testing for new or rehabilitated sewer and storm drain systems.

Excavation & Rehabilitation

Perform Hydro Excavation to safely expose underground utilities or verify utility locations with precision.
Apply Epoxy Lining Systems and perform Chemical Grout Injection for pipe joint sealing and structural rehabilitation.
Assist in mixing, applying, and curing epoxy materials according to manufacturer specifications.
Ensure accurate measurement, application rates, and quality control of chemical grout products.

Safety & Compliance

Follow company and OSHA safety protocols at all times.
Maintain equipment and ensure all tools are clean, inspected, and in good working order.
Document field operations through inspection reports, photos, and digital logs.
Maintain proper traffic control and public safety measures during field operations.
Participate in safety meetings, training, and jobsite hazard assessments.

Qualifications Required

High School Diploma or GED.
Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record (CDL Class A or B preferred).
Experience operating vacuum trucks, hydro excavators, and/or CCTV inspection equipment.
Ability to interpret sewer maps, plans, and as-builts.
Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with underground utility systems.
Physically able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 75 lbs.

Preferred

NASSCO certification (PACP/MACP/LACP).
Confined Space Entry and Competent Person certification.
Knowledge of local municipal standards and testing requirements.
Prior experience in chemical grouting, epoxy coating, or trenchless rehabilitation.

Core Competencies

Dependable, punctual, and adaptable to changing field conditions.
Capable of working independently or as part of a small crew.

Work Environment
