Reports To: Department Head

Status: Hourly, Non- Exempt

State date: Immediately

Job Summary: An Instructional Assistant (IA), under general supervision, provides assistance to the classroom teacher, performing a variety of tasks relating to the physical and instructional needs of students in a classroom setting; assists in the implementation of instructional programs, including self-advocacy and behavior management as well as instruction.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the teacher on methods, materials and strategies for reinforcements on target children. The teacher will plan all lessons and be responsible for instruction.
  • Aid teacher, when requested, in communication between home and school.
  • Supervise student lunch and recess.
  • Provide classroom management support during elective classes.
  • Participate in on-going staff development.
  • Help plan scheduling for meeting the needs of students.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers as to students needs and progress.
  • Treat all information about the school, teachers, children and their families as strictly confidential.
  • Maintain a high standard of professional behavior at all times
  • Give reinforcement to students in the areas of social studies, math, science, and reading or other areas as directed by their classroom teacher(s).
  • Support the teacher on methods, materials and strategies for support with their assigned student. The teacher will plan all lessons and be responsible for instruction.
  • Help collect and/or prepare materials to support student learning.
  • Engage caregivers in the educational process, providing frequent opportunities to discuss student strengths, growth, and needs
  • Maintain a high standard of professional behavior at all times

Job Qualifications:

  • Fingerprint clearance through OSPI
  • A clean background check through Washington State Patrol and Goodhire
  • High School Degree
  • Experience working with students with autism and learners with varying access needs
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with individuals
  • Demonstrated understanding and use of equitable and culturally responsive practices
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners.
