Job Summary: An Instructional Assistant (IA), under general supervision, provides assistance to the classroom teacher, performing a variety of tasks relating to the physical and instructional needs of students in a classroom setting; assists in the implementation of instructional programs, including self-advocacy and behavior management as well as instruction.
Responsibilities:
- Support the teacher on methods, materials and strategies for reinforcements on target children. The teacher will plan all lessons and be responsible for instruction.
- Aid teacher, when requested, in communication between home and school.
- Supervise student lunch and recess.
- Provide classroom management support during elective classes.
- Participate in on-going staff development.
- Help plan scheduling for meeting the needs of students.
- Communicate regularly with teachers as to students needs and progress.
- Treat all information about the school, teachers, children and their families as strictly confidential.
- Maintain a high standard of professional behavior at all times
- Give reinforcement to students in the areas of social studies, math, science, and reading or other areas as directed by their classroom teacher(s).
- Support the teacher on methods, materials and strategies for support with their assigned student. The teacher will plan all lessons and be responsible for instruction.
- Help collect and/or prepare materials to support student learning.
- Engage caregivers in the educational process, providing frequent opportunities to discuss student strengths, growth, and needs
- Maintain a high standard of professional behavior at all times
Job Qualifications:
- Fingerprint clearance through OSPI
- A clean background check through Washington State Patrol and Goodhire
- High School Degree
- Experience working with students with autism and learners with varying access needs
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with individuals
- Demonstrated understanding and use of equitable and culturally responsive practices
- Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners.
