Lentech is seeking an experienced Instrument Opto-Mechanical Systems Engineer to provide technical support to the Optical Telescope Assembly (OTA) Team for Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Mission Operations.
This position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills, and extensive analytical skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must have strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise, and be an articulate speaker able to confidently communicate complex technical ideas.

Pay Range: There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. Our team members value the flexibility at Lentech that allows them to balance quality work and their personal lives. The range shown below is the national average for the position.
The proposed salary range for this position is: $90,000.00-$116,000.00

JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform analysis, calibration, and trending of instrument and sensor performance
- Respond to operational anomalies and provide 24x7 on-call anomaly support
- Perform fault/anomaly analysis, identify appropriate recommendations, and implement solutions and work-arounds
- Create and modify analysis and trending software tools
- Undertake requirements capture, performance trades, and design activities
- Generate technical reports and presentations
- Develop and maintain command procedures, telemetry display pages, subsystem operations procedures/documentation, and guide star acquisition logic
- Support planning and execution of ground test and spacecraft operations activities
- Although some work may be performed remotely, must be able to work on site full time at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, in a multidisciplinary team environment
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Astronomy, or equivalent education in related discipline with combined experience
- Possess a minimum 3 years of instrument engineering experience
- Possess experience using data analysis tools/techniques (e.g., MATLAB, SQL)
- Possess elevated mathematics and programming skills (e.g., Java, Python)
- Possess excellent organizational, leadership, and oral and written communications skills
- Demonstrates technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones
- Possess ability to understand and apply new concepts within an evolving environment
- Must be a US citizen with ability to pass a government background investigation
DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Ideally possess 5 or more years of relevant work experience in the aerospace industry with concentration in working with spacecraft flight hardware/instrumentation
- Ideally possess experience with optical sensors, optical mechanisms, and optical systems
- Ideally possess experience with version control systems (e.g., Git, Jira)
