Job Title: Project Instrumentation Engineer(Expert)

Location: On-Site - Luling LA

Duration: 6-Month Initial Contract (Potential 6–12 month extension)

Pay rate - $60- 66/hour

Position Summary

Reporting to the Site Project Engineering Manager, the Project Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise across the full project lifecycle. The role focuses on instrumentation specification and design, Safety Instrumented System (SIS) integration, cost estimation, and field-based system troubleshooting. You will bridge the gap between conceptual design and field implementation in a high-stakes industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Project Engineering

• Project Lifecycle Management: Lead multiple tasks to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget.
• Instrumentation Design: Oversee conceptual and detailed design packages, including instrument selection, valve specification, and wire/cable sizing.
• Technical Documentation: Develop and update instrument spec sheets, loop sheets, connection diagrams, electrical schematics, and P&IDs (EFDs).
• Safety Systems: Work with Functional Safety Managers to prioritize migration and PHA efforts; provide technical basis for instrument utilization based on site Functional Safety procedures.
• Estimating & Procurement: Develop cable schedules, instrument indices, and material takeoffs. Prepare bid requests for subcontractors and material vendors and provide selection recommendations.
• DCS Integration: Collaborate with the site Distributed Control Systems (DCS) team to implement project-specific changes.

Field Engineering & Execution

• Site Supervision: Act as the Field Engineer by supervising subcontractors, reviewing daily schedules, and managing field-level budgets.
• QA/QC: Conduct field walks to verify that construction and installation meet design specifications and utility/facility constraints.
• Commissioning: Assist construction supervisors and system operators with equipment commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting.
• Technical Support: Troubleshoot systems across various voltage levels (24VDC, 120VAC, 480VAC) and signal types (4-20mA, 0-5VDC, 0-10VDC).

Required Qualifications

• Education: BS degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience: Minimum of 8 years in instrumentation engineering.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written skills for reporting status to project managers and clients.
• Mobility: Must be able to drive a company-provided site vehicle (MVR required).

Preferred Skills

• Industry Background: 5+ years of experience in chemical production or refinery environments.
• Functional Safety: Deep knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Safety Integrity Level (SIL), and Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS).
• Standards: Practical knowledge of IEC 61508 standards.

Physical & Safety Requirements

• PPE: Steel toes, hardhat, gloves, goggles, and safety glasses are required.
• Physical Ability: Must be able to climb stairs or ladders unassisted and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Environment: Work is primarily at project construction sites. Any work at heights (above 4 ft) requires full fall protection.
• Chemical Safety: Access to SDS is provided for all on-site chemicals.
