Job Summary

The Division of Fish and Wildlife (FAW) is currently seeking an Integrated Public Relations (IPR) Supervisor. The position provides day-to-day supervision for a team with broad areas of advanced professional expertise in strategic communications, public and media relations, marketing, and special events. Working together, the team provides a seamlessly coordinates public relations, public information, and a marketing program that 1) raises awareness of, increases participation in, and builds loyalty to Fish and Wildlife's broad suite of outdoor recreation opportunities and 2) expands outreach to diverse communities to better connect all Minnesotans to the outdoors.

This position requires occasional overnight and/or weekend trips to various locations across the state each year to attend special events, including four (4) Governor's Season Opener events annually, among others.

This position has a flexible work arrangement and may be eligible to telework on a part-time basis which is subject to change. If approved, the employee would be required to complete a telework agreement. This position will require reporting to the primary work location on at least an occasional basis for meetings, training, onboarding, etc.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Four (4) years of experience in marketing, public relations, or communications with experience creating a variety of communications products.
    • A bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications, natural resources, or other related fields may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Supervisory or lead work experience demonstrating the ability to direct work, manage conflict, hold employees accountable, support growth development, and train and motivate staff to perform jobs effectively.
  • Knowledge of principles, tools, and techniques of communications and marketing sufficient to develop and implement successful outreach campaigns and manage a complex multi-platform public relations program. This includes creating communication plans across multiple platforms such as web, social, print, etc.
  • Highly effective communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with diverse partners and multicultural communities.
  • Ability to conduct effective media interviews and establish effective relationships with the media.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to maintain effective teams and manage, guide, and communicate with staff and partners at all levels.
  • Project management skills sufficient to ensure projects are organized, tracked, and completed on a timely basis.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning, work planning, and budgeting sufficient to effectively manage the units work.
  • Ability to treat employees inclusively in the areas of accommodation, scheduling, expectations, individualized resource needs, training, and development.
  • Ability to occasionally travel and stay overnight in various locations throughout the state or across the country for events, meetings, and trainings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications, natural resources, or other related fields.
  • Knowledge of natural resources and/or outdoor recreation issues and interests.
  • Experience working with diverse communities.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify issues, recognize problems, and come up with actionable solutions.
  • Knowledge of performance measurement and program evaluation methods to ensure unit and program goals and objectives are achieved.
  • Ability to successfully manage and lead large, complex, multi-year projects or initiatives.
  • Proficiency in a second language spoken within Minnesota.

Additional Requirements

This position requires an unrestricted Class D Drivers license with a clear driving record.
