We are seeking a highly experienced Inventory Control Specialist to join our high-volume warehouse team in Forest Park, Illinois. This role demands strong proficiency in mathematics and computer systems to support precise inventory management, cycle counting, shipping coordination, and data-driven warehouse operations. The position is not entry-level—candidates must possess proven expertise and the ability to contribute immediately without training on core functions. You will perform weekly and monthly cycle counts, assist the Shipping Coordinator daily, handle concurrent warehouse duties, and ensure high inventory accuracy (targeting 98-99% or better) through analytical reconciliation and system updates. Emphasis is placed on advanced math skills for calculations, variance analysis, and statistical accuracy, alongside proficient computer skills for WMS/ERP navigation, data entry, reporting, and troubleshooting in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Key Responsibilities Conduct weekly and monthly cycle counts using industry-standard methods (e.g., ABC classification for prioritizing high-value/fast-moving items, random sampling, and control group counting) to maintain superior inventory accuracy. Perform detailed variance analysis, root-cause investigations, and reconciliations of discrepancies using precise mathematical calculations (including arithmetic, percentages, fractions, decimals, ratios, and basic statistical methods for error trending and forecasting). Update inventory records in real-time via Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) or ERP platforms, ensuring data integrity through accurate data entry, adjustments, transfers, and reporting. Assist the Shipping Coordinator daily with outbound shipment preparation, including bill of lading generation, packing lists, labels, rate calculations, and carrier coordination—requiring strong math skills for computing shipping weights, dimensions, charges, space optimization, and demurrage fees. Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders, manifests, and invoices; inspect for accuracy; document discrepancies; and process receipts with precise quantity/quality checks. Utilize computer systems extensively for tracking shipments, generating reports, analyzing inventory trends, and resolving issues—leveraging intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis) and WMS/ERP software. Perform concurrent warehouse duties such as order picking/packing, stocking, organizing storage, operating material handling equipment (forklift/pallet jack—certification preferred), and maintaining a safe, efficient workspace. Support shipping/receiving by staging loads, handling returns/transfers, and ensuring compliance with OSHA standards and Illinois Warehouse Worker Protection Act requirements (e.g., quota transparency where applicable in large facilities). Identify process improvements through data analysis to reduce shrinkage, minimize errors, and enhance efficiency in high-volume operations. Other duties as assigned to maintain overall warehouse productivity. Required Qualifications and Experience Minimum 3-5 years of direct, hands-on experience in a high-volume warehouse (e.g., distribution center, logistics, or fulfillment with fast-moving goods and 100,000+ SKUs)—must demonstrate immediate proficiency without training. Strong mathematical proficiency (essential): Excellent skills in arithmetic, multiplication/division, fractions/decimals, percentages, ratios, basic algebra/statistics for cycle count reconciliations, variance calculations, shipment costing, inventory forecasting, and error analysis. Advanced computer skills (essential): Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel for formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis); proven experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite), RF scanners, barcode systems, and inventory software for real-time tracking, reporting, and troubleshooting. Demonstrated expertise in shipping/receiving processes, inventory control, and cycle counting in high-volume settings. Ability to operate warehouse equipment (forklift certification a plus). Exceptional attention to detail, analytical mindset, and multitasking ability in a dynamic environment. High school diploma or GED required. Physical capability to lift up to 75+ lbs, stand/walk for extended periods, and work in varying warehouse conditions. Preferred Qualifications Experience in Illinois-based warehouses with knowledge of state-specific regulations (e.g., Illinois Warehouse Worker Protection Act). Familiarity with compliance standards (OSHA, DOT shipping regulations). Advanced Excel or data analysis tools experience for inventory reporting and trend identification. Forklift certification and RF scanner/WMS expertise in high-volume operations. This role requires candidates who can immediately apply strong math and computer expertise to deliver accurate, efficient results in our fast-paced warehouse. If you meet these rigorous requirements and are prepared to contribute from day one, apply today for competitive pay, benefits, and a stable Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts 7:00am – 3:30pm schedule in Forest Park, Illinois.
