Summary This position serves as an Inventory Manager in the Commodity Management Division of the Logistics Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area—responsible for the inventory management of all expendable supplies and durable medical equipment (DME) in the assigned area(s). Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet time‑in‑grade, specialized experience, and/or education requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement – 04/06/2026. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time‑in‑grade requirements within 30 days of the closing date. For a GS‑7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS‑5. The grade may have been in any occupation – but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF‑50 that shows your time‑in‑grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Specialized Experience: You must have one (1) full year of specialized experience at the GS‑05 level that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Key areas include: Managing a variety of expendable items and durable medical equipment Forecasting short‑ and long‑range inventory needs Analyzing inventory management reports and evaluating options to provide supply support Utilizing automated inventory management systems to maintain current inventory data Researching and analyzing information to resolve questions and issues Implementing federal and agency programs for the return and reutilization of medical supplies Education: Alternatively, you may substitute education for the required experience. Applicants may qualify if they have completed one full year of graduate level education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Transcripts must be submitted with the application. Only education beyond a bachelor’s degree may be used to qualify applicants for the GS‑07 level. Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) at the baccalaureate level is also fully qualifying under specified criteria. Duties Inventory Management and Control: Responsible for the management and control of an assigned class of expendable material. Serve as the point of contact for the coordination of material support and resolution of logistic problems. Conduct forecasting and quantitative analysis. Conduct spot checks. Comply with special requirements for firearms, ammunition, and sensitive equipment returns, recalls, and reutilization. Implements federal and agency programs for the return and reutilization of medical supplies. Coordinate disposal of surplus or excess supplies. Make emergent procurement decisions. Participate in root‑cause analysis processes and perform other related duties as assigned. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm PST, Monday to Friday. This is not a virtual position.
