This position exists to conduct market conduct examinations of insurance companies that affect Minnesota consumers. Typically, these examinations are either larger, more complex, or both. They often arise from market analysis of data reported to the agency by clientele identified below. The purpose of these examinations is to determine whether violations of Minnesota insurance statutes and/or rules occurred. Violations are documented as examination findings and become part of a preliminary examination report. This position will also assist in the agencys education of clientele about insurance issues and insurance regulation.

Minimum Qualifications

Five (5) years of experience working in insurance regulation, compliance, regulatory affairs, legal, or related. ( A Bachelors degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Economics or related field substitutes as one (1) year of experience. An Advanced degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Economics or related field substitutes as eighteen (18) months of experience.)

Applicants who meet the above education/experience requirements will be further evaluated based on the following:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong verbal communication skills necessary to participate in discussions and interviews with various parties and ability to convey relevant issues to others.
  • Strong written communication skills necessary to write, prepare, and edit memos, letters, and presentations while using correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Project management skills sufficient to manage several investigations and inquiries simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • More than five (5) years of experience with insurance regulation, compliance, regulatory affiars, or legal.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with insurance law, particularly Minnesotas.
  • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
  • One or more insurance designations (CIE, AIE, MCM, CLU, FLMI, CPCU, CIC, FAHM, PIR, or APIR).

Physical Requirements

Requires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, accounting records, laptop computer, and portable printer.

Additional Requirements

Job offer is contingent upon passing reference checks to verify job-related credentials, a criminal background check and drivers license check prior to appointment.
