Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The Office of Research Information Systems (ORIS) reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Research (VCR) and is responsible for providing IT and information systems support across all VCR units and affiliated centers in support of a $1 billion research enterprise. ORIS serves two main functions: (1) to provide ongoing IT support to all research units and (2) to develop information systems in support of critical research activities campus-wide. ORIS is responsible not only for development of these systems, but also for ongoing maintenance of these mission-critical research information systems. ORIS works closely with VCR units to ensure the systems are operating correctly and properly serving their needs, as well as the needs of research faculty across the University. Position Summary This position is responsible for assessing the needs of the UNC-Chapel Hill Research Offices for the purpose of designing and developing complex information systems for use by the research community at UNC-Chapel Hill. Development tasks will include database design and development, application design and development, and query and report building. This position will work with other IT personnel within the Office of Research Information Systems (ORIS) under the direction of the Director for Enterprise Applications to provide for any application needs. The position will be responsible for maintenance and ongoing development and enhancement of information systems and reporting infrastructure, including data conversions, development, testing, training, and support. The position will assist in managing project deliverables, helping coordinate development deliverables across our office several ORIS supported systems. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Master\'s and 1-2 years\' experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 years\' experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution. Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience The position will assist in managing project deliverables, helping coordinate development deliverables across our office several ORIS supported systems. - Considerable knowledge of data management, manipulation, and query techniques - Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and to work with functional users to understand functional requirements and translate those into a solution - Demonstrated ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret organization and procedural problems to determine potential for automation - Strong written and oral communication skills Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience 3- 5 years of applicable experience is preferred Special Physical/Mental Requirements Campus Security Authority Responsibilities Not Applicable.
