We are seeking an experienced Fabrication Shop Manager with a proven track record and a strong work ethic to join our company, a leading heavy civil infrastructure company based in Connecticut. This position will oversee and coordinate production floor activities, budgets, and investments, ensuring the safety, quality, delivery, and cost-effectiveness of our products. The Fabrication Shop Manager will drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and cost savings while fostering a positive work environment. Reporting directly to the Vice President, this role provides leadership to production managers, supervisors, team leaders, and production employees.
Location:
Connecticut. This is a full-time position with no remote option. Salary range will be commensurate with experience.
Salary: 120k - 150k
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or related field with 5 10 years of experience
- Proficiency in structural steel fabrication adhering to AISC and SSPC Standards
- Detail-oriented with excellent follow-through skills
- Strong oral and written communication abilities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Extensive experience with QA/QC procedures
- Proficient in computers and MS Office programs; experience with AutoCAD preferred
- Demonstrated ability to manage, train, motivate, and delegate effectively
- Excellent project management and planning skills
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards
- Fluent in English; Spanish proficiency is advantageous
- Ability to occasionally lift, pull, and push up to 50 lbs. as required
- Sales experience considered a plus
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and government regulations
- Foster a positive team environment focused on Safety, Quality, On-time Delivery, and Cost
- Review and approve quotes before customer submission
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement activities
- Provide guidance to supervisors and leads on safety, quality, production, scheduling, technical, and personnel matters
- Communicate timely concerns and solutions to the General Manager
- Oversee effective operation of all equipment
- Manage training, coaching, and mentoring for supervisors, leads, and production personnel
- Ensure adequate manpower, skills, knowledge, and equipment to meet production demands
- Lead safety programs and initiatives
- Plan, assign, and supervise goals and work assignments
- Effectively manage, develop, and motivate direct and indirect reports
- Support professional development for direct reports
- Make data-driven decisions based on production schedules, resources, and labor needs
- Resolve work order performance issues related to quotes
- Manage a combination office and shop assembly/distribution center environment
- Collaborate with department managers to understand supply needs and project requirements
