Job Cost Accountant at CRH – Savannah, GA We are seeking a detail‑oriented and proactive Job Cost Accountant to join our team at a leading asphalt paving construction company. This role is responsible for managing and analyzing all job related financial data to ensure accuracy in billing, cost tracking, and compliance. The ideal candidate will work closely with project managers and operations teams to track job progress, perform cost analysis, manage subcontractor payments, and assist with reporting and reconciliations. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with estimating team to upload new jobs, process change orders, and enter subcontracts into the financial system. Work closely with project managers to track job progress, material quantities, and labor/equipment hours. Monitor job budgets and compare actual costs to estimates to identify and explain variances. Maintain detailed job cost records by line item, phase, and cost type. Prepare and process owner billings based on project progress and unit quantities. Review, verify, and process subcontractor invoices and payments, and ensure proper lien waivers are obtained. Generate and submit Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) utilization reports for applicable projects. Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up with customers on past‑due balances. Work with project management to update monthly construction backlog. Assist with month‑end close process including updating estimated job revenue and costs, and WIP journal entries. Reconcile general ledger accounts. Prepare quarterly percentage of completion reports for bonding and insurance requirements. Recommend necessary cost adjustments. Identify areas for process improvement within job cost tracking and billing functions. Maintain clear and organized documentation of all job cost accounting procedures. Work on ad hoc projects as directed. Knowledge and Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 2+ years of accounting experience in the construction industry; experience in asphalt paving or heavy civil construction highly preferred. Strong understanding of job cost accounting principles and percentage of completion revenue recognition. Experience with construction accounting software such as Viewpoint. Proficient in Microsoft Excel. Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem solving skills. Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment. Working Requirements Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required. Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Environmental, Health & Safety manual. Strict adherence to policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual. Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers or managers with other projects or initiatives as required. Willingness to train others across other operating companies.
