Job Description:
Summary: The main function of a network engineer is to determine user requirements and design specifications for computer networks. A typical network engineer is responsible for planning and implementing network upgrades.
Job Responsibilities:
- Adjust network sizes to meet volume or capacity demands.
- Communicate with customers, sales staff, or marketing staff to determine customer needs.
- Coordinate network operations, maintenance, repairs or upgrades.
- Design, build, or operate equipment configuration prototypes, including network hardware, software, servers, or server operation systems.
- Determine specific network hardware or software requirements such as platforms, interfaces, bandwidths, or routine schemas.
- Develop and implement solutions for network problems.
Skills:
- Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Basic ability to work independently and manage one's time.
- Basic knowledge of computer hardware as it relates to data storage.
- Knowledge of computer software, such as configuration management software, desktop communications software, operating system software and internet directory services software.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field required.
- 2-4 years experience required.

Typical task breakdown:
- LAN and WLAN administration
- Knowledge of wireless technology and provide operational support in an operational/warehouse environment
- Solid troubleshooting and tracing skills, Cisco hardware configuration (router, switch, wireless LAN controller), software maintenance/upgrades, continuous network improvement
- Responsible for day-to-day network operations in supported PSLD sites, including site start-ups
- Strong customer support skills and ITSM
- Monitors networks and provide network up-time for facilities
- Handle break/fix on the network
- Interacts frequently with Engineering and IT contacts at facilities, enterprise network teams & application teams for troubleshooting and investigation
- Proficient with WAN, DNS/DHCP, data cabling, & network hardware
- Network management - Cisco Prime LMS, WCS, Radius, Tacacs administration
- Asset manager for LAN/WLAN (Hardware tracking) including surplus hardware management
- Working knowledge of:
* LAN cabling standards
* IP Phones, PRI, Analog Lines and POTS Lines
* PA Systems
* Cisco Prime and other network monitoring tools
* Planning, design, and implementation of LAN and wireless networks including DHCP and DNS
* Programming and monitoring Cisco network equipment.
* Planning and upgrading existing networks to stay current with technology or respond to Client enterprise network and security guidelines, initiatives, and mandates
* Assistance with WAN implementations performed by other Client network teams
* Power requirements and standards for network equipment in TCOMM rooms

Education & Experience Required:
- Associates Degree Degree in Computer Networking and 2-4 of IT experience required.
