Role Summary
The Junior Scrum Master is responsible for supporting one or more Scrum Teams and assisting the team and the organization in leveraging Agile principles, practices, and frameworks (like Scrum and Kanban) to deliver high-value business capabilities. This role focuses on facilitation, coaching the basics, and removing lower-level impediments.
What You Will Do:
- Facilitation and Support:
- Facilitate core Scrum ceremonies (Daily Stand-up, Sprint Planning, Sprint Review/Demo, and Retrospective) with guidance from a senior leader, ensuring the team adheres to timeboxes and clear outcomes.
- Assist the team in maintaining daily routines and promoting self-organization and collaboration.
- Help the Product Owner in maintaining the Product Backlog, understanding velocity, and ensuring a clear definition of "Done."
- Coaching and Process Adherence:
- Guide the team in practicing core Agile principles, focusing on self-direction, team accountability, and transparency.
- Coach the team on the proper use of Scrum and Kanban frameworks, ensuring adherence to established procedures and best practices.
- Assist in assessing the team's maturity level and learning ways to coach the team to higher levels of performance at a sustainable pace.
- Impediment Management and Transparency:
- Actively identify and document impediments (blockers) that prevent the team from achieving its sprint goals.
- Take ownership of removing minor, internal obstacles and escalate more complex, external impediments to a Senior Scrum Master or manager.
- Ensure that retrospectives result in documented, actionable tasks and track the implementation of these improvements.
- Improve transparency by helping the team radiate key information, metrics, and progress updates to the appropriate stakeholders (e.g., using burn-down charts, dashboards).
- Assist with internal communication and conflict resolution within the team.
- Follow all policies, procedures, ergonomic standards and safety requirements directed by the company and the department.
- Perform other duties as requested by management.
What You Must Have:
- 0-2 years of experience as a Scrum Master or significant experience as a team member working within a formal Agile framework.
- Must be a Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or hold an equivalent certification (e.g., PSM I).
- Solid foundational Knowledge of Agile principles and techniques (e.g., story mapping, relative estimation, continuous integration).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to facilitate discussions.
- Bachelor's Degree or higher preferred.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new organizational environments and constraints.
Highly Preferred:
- Experience using Agile management tools like Atlassian Tool Chain (JIRA, Confluence) for backlog management and tracking metrics.
- Familiarity with scaling frameworks (e.g., SAFe, LeSS) is a plus
