Statement of Work Details
Provides technical experience needed to assist in studying the basic principles of plant and animal life
- Plan and administer biological research programs
- Study basic principles of plant and animal life, such as origin, relationship, development, anatomy, and function
- Identify, classify, and study structure, behavior, ecology, physiology, nutrition, culture, and distribution of plant and animal species
- Perform DNA prep and DNA sequencing on blood and bone marrow samples.
- Perform DNA sequencing analysis on blood and bone marrow samples.
- Support murine (and, in the future, monkey) bone marrow transplant studies.
- Develop protocols for laboratory equipment and new techniques.

Assists with performing basic laboratory experiments and procedures
- Collect and analyze biological data about relationships among and between organisms and their environment 1
- Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings
- Process and store bone marrow and blood samples, with greater than or equal to 90% cell viability.
- Mentor a postbaccalaureate fellow to work on the project of sequencing SCD patients pre- and post-transplant as well as in donor baseline timepoints for the presence of mutations that may represent clonal hematopoiesis.
- Ensure that skills and training are kept current on all laboratory and institute requirements
- Develop protocols for laboratory equipment and new techniques.
Prepares, organizes and maintains various lab samples, supplies, and equipment
- Operate, calibrate, or maintain equipment used in quantitative or qualitative analysis, such as spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photo meters, or computer-controlled analyzers
- Maintain laboratory equipment
- Operate laboratory equipment to analyze samples
- Maintain the laboratory in an organized, clean manner; purchase supplies using POTS; stock supplies; make solutions; dispose of chemical waste; etc.
- Maintain the equipment through troubleshooting and performing or coordinating maintenance, service, and repair tasks as necessary.
- Ensure that all members of the laboratory are updated with regard to laboratory safety requirements.
- Provide guidance and assistance to other members of the laboratory using basic techniques such as flow cytometry and quantitative PCR.
- Process and store bone marrow and blood samples, with greater than or equal to 90% cell viability.
